I know the breads and pastas as well as the rice are out at this point, 2 months post op, but what about corn chips and salsa. I have been craving them and was wondering, since they are not made from flour but corn and if I find some low carbs ones, then what about them? Have you guys been able to eat them?

Ben, Don't know what kind of WLS you had, 2 months is too early for chips after most RNYs. But at 3 months, baked tostitos with salsa are goooooood.   But be warned;  too much can slow down your weight loss; salt w/water retention and too many seem to make me a bit constipated.  I get the baked ones, that are the little bowls, and put them out on a plate and put about a half teaspoon of salsa in each one.  Jus****ch the moderation thing.  I ate too many at Super Bowl Sunday and got a bit woozy.  And they go down nice so eating too many is possible.  Use that new smarts you are developing and don't start too soon. They will be there.

Not sure if they're good or bad. All I know is, if someone else brings them home, I'll finish them off. I never have the desire to stop off and buy anything like that, which is very different from pre-op. Self-control from an operation (?!?). Go figure Could  be partially due to the fact that I let my wife do all of the shopping (housewife). I've set foot in a grocery store maybe five times since surgery.

If you cant eat the chips then try pork rinds with the salsa . The pork rinds are pure pro , granted they have a lot of fat but you cant eat very many anyway .  I had lap band and at two months out there was no way that I could have eaten chips of any kind . I am about 1.5 years out and at goal . I have been for a while now . It is still hard for me to eat some of those things . I can eat rice and some pasta but I have to eat the pasta very slow.  good luck which ever way it goes for ya . Nick

Hey Nick!

(Sorry for the hijack!)

Send me your e-mail if you can. I can't mail out of OH or other people's OH mail accounts. Doing great after surgery. Thanks for checking up on me. I've all but forgotten I had surgery. Just a few lumps around the lap cuts.

Best Wishes,

Dave

I love chips and salsa, but at 6 weeks out, I'm choosing not to eat chips, bread, pasta, rice, etc.  I have been able to tolerate everything I've eaten so far, but I'm choosing to avoid these things so I can take full advantage of my "honeymoon" period.  I have/had 275 pounds to loose since surgery, and I want to do everything I can to make my goal. I have found a couple of alternatives though that i will share.  I bought some turkey pepperoni (lower fat, and still tasty), and put in microwave until they turn crisp.  Make sure you put paper-towels under and over them as you cook them, otherwise your microwave will be covered with grease.   It doesn't take long, so just keep checking them every few seconds to see when they are crisp, and dip them in the salsa. The other thing I made was "Parmesean Cheese crisps."  Just lay out round disk size flat piles of Parm Cheese (about the size of a chip) on a non stick cookie sheet, and bake at 350 for a few minutes.  I sprayed with cooking spray first just to make sure I didn't end up with a mess.  Jus****ch them until they just start to brown, and remove.   Let them cool and they set up firm and easy to dip in salsa. They aren't the doritos/tostidos etc I used to eat by the bagful, but they satisfy my cravings.  I also know that the longer I go without the bready carbs, the less I physically crave them.    Anyway - just wanted to share what I've been doing in this area.  I LOVE salsa and use it on everything - eggs, chicken, ground beef, etc.   Luckily my tummy/pouch loves the salsa too, or I'd be a sad puppy!!! I am with Joe on this one.  I really like the baked tostitos in the minature cup size.  For some reason I can not handle chunky salsa.  So, I eat the smoth taco sauces.  Yum!    A few carbs will not hurt you.  Especially if you are exercising. Just don't over do it. Kent

Well, it seems as though everyone has some great and different ideas for this craving. I have not eaten any and my craving went away after about an hour of thinking aboout it. It would be nice to have some but i think it would be even better that I waited until I have reached my goal and change my pre op eating habits to what is healthy and satisfying at the same time. I knew I could count on you guys for advice and experience. I do like the idea of the Turkey chips though, also the parmesion chips, I think I will try those. Thanks for the advice guys.

I used salsa to add some zest to scrambled eggs at 6 weeks.  I am 14 weeks out and still have not tried corn chips.  I have been temtped just to see how they worked but so far have avoided them. Rich
