Not sure what some parents are thinking

This came in off the Associated Press: "The mother of an obese 7-year-old says county social workers have gained temporary custody of the boy.Joyce Painter's son, Justin, is at Duke University in a special weight program. He recently weighed 254 pounds.

Painter said that a Wednesday court hearing in Polk County will determine whether she can regain custody of Justin. Painter said county Department of Social Service workers told her last month that they might take custody away from her if Justin didn't lose weight. -- associated press" Bobby

Its the new type of parenting shove whatever you can at your kid to shut them up. It just changes with age....food and tv at younger ages.....then money and video games as they get older. Parents dont raise there kids anymore. Ive been a cop for over 20 yrs. see it all the time and have been involved in boy and girl scouting for years with my kids and wife, and see it there too. Many times I have had to call parents 10/20/30 min. after a meeting is over to remind them to pick up there kids. Or going on trips tell the parents that backpack full of cookies and candy is staying home ...but some warm clothes would be nice for the camping trip.
