Stomach Pain/Noise?

Question for the field: About three days ago, I started developing pain right where I believe my stomach to be, along with a bunch of noise from there when I drink anything.  The pain feels similar to what my stomach felt like 4-5 days after surgery. The noise is new for me, too. Girggleing (-5 sp) and groaning. Absolutely no changes to my diet, nothing weird eaten, etc. At first I was thinking Gall Bladder, but I think that is on the right side, not the left. Then I was thinking hernia. That would explain the pain, but not the noise. (I think). Then maybe I have developed an ulcer? I have nothing to compare this to, as I always have had a rock solid constitution prior to surgery, and up to now, with no history of indigestion, heartburn, ulcers or anything like that until now. I am working to set an appointment to go see my Dr., of course, but I am curious if any of you have had any similar experiences. I am 4-5 months out from RNY. Things are still "passing", so I am not too worried. Just don't want this to develop into something bad. Thanks. JP

JP, I had a similiar sound issue that turned out to be a stricture, or closing of the tissue above my stomach.  But I also had a problem holding down food you don't seem to be having at this time, which makes me wonder if it is possible you may be having a stricture, blockage, or something going on below the stomach that is making the gurgling int he stomach from some minor backup or gas bubbles.  Calling and making an appoinmnet with the doc was a really good idea before it becomes a serious issue.  Keep us posted on the diagnosis when you get one.  My surgeon ordered an endoscopy that explored and discovered my issue and got it fixed during the same visit. It sounds like you are talking about me. I also developed pain on both sides, just under the ribs, and have had noises for quite a while. I have a lot more gas than I had before surgery and most of it comes out the bottom end and I haven't worried about it. I had an ultrasound done and though I haven't heard back from the doc yet, I said the tec who gave it to me "I know you are not a doctor and can't give medical advice but do you see anything?" her answer was "what are the odds of getting gall stones with this operation?" and I said "any rapid weight loss has a good chance of getting gall stones, I guess it looks like I MIGHT be one of them huh?" and her answer was "you MIGHT be one" Everything was said with a wink and a nodd so I am just waiting for the doc to get back to me and give me guidance from here. I think you MIGHT be in the club also, but then again I am no doc nor have I ever met you so take it with a grain of salt!

Hi JP,

Could be all of the above, but after I got the pain suddenly from the hernia, doctors detected a high level of gas in my abdomen and I was hearing lots of noises. However, most of the pain was on the left, just under the ribcage and on the right, just above and to the right of the naval.

I went into surgery with no direct evidence other than gas. I suppose your doctor will need to check you out and eliminate other causes. What caught my attention was being doubled up sweating on the floor one day, then having a night of gas pressure pain so bad that it caused my spine to ache. That was a one-time thing though. It really can be very intermittent.

Good Luck,

Dave

Hey JP.... I think it's too late for you to have a sctricture...but stranger things have happened...an ultra sound and blood would with tell you about the Gallbladder But as I and Dave and tell you...that internal hernia is nothing to play with...I wa rolling on the floor ...literally.....howling like a beast..... check it out..... and Dave....I just figured you had gone into the witness protection program again...... oh man the long heads on my triceps are singing today!!!! glad you are back Russ

Thanks for the input, guys. I talked to my doc, and he doesn't think it is too serious, after I explained everything too him including my cross country jaunts these last few weeks. I have poured all the water in me I can stand today, and am feeling a bit better. Not all better, but doing OK. Things are still passing through nicely (in not quietly), and I have had some scrambled eggs and cottage cheese today, too. I think I might have just had one too many protein bars and a few too few waters this past week. Other possibilities include ulcer or gall bladder, too. I am going to head back to NC tomorrow and finish out the work I promised the client by the end of the month, and then go see my doc the first week of May. That is the plan for now. If I get worse over the next few days, instead of better, I'll probably be back on here looking for a good doc referral in Raleigh, or catching the next jet back. Thanks again. JP
