A smelly FART, with a disgusting bonus
Since I haven't posted for awhile, I'm gonna get a bit long winded in telling this. Still, nothing like a Dex post...
The warmup: My weight has stabilized about 30 lbs higher than my ultimate goal. I'm fighting like H3ll to kick-start the loss and get down to my goal. but the truth be told, if I don't lose or gain another pound for the rest of my life, I'll be happy right where I am now.
Most of you regulars will recall the FARTs I had late last summer, when I realized I could get into the crawlspace of my house, and through some very small access holes...
The story: I answered a call last night, where someone had caught their doublewide on fire. The homeowner flicked a cigarette butt, and the high wind blew it into a crack between his porch and the side of the house. catching the siding and insulation. A smoldering mess, but nothing fully engulfed.
For reasons totally unknown to me, the chief picked me and another guy who is only slightly smaller to get into the crawlspace and look for anything else burning underneath. We had a couple others there are only slightly wider than the whip antenna on my scanner... Well, the chief gave the order, so I go. I found an access, and moved the door. My thought was, "You gotta be sh*tting me. You want me to crawl through that???" The hole was about 16" square. The FART: I DID IT, IN MY GEAR!
The bonus disgusting part: the Nor'easter formed over us before moving north along the coast, so we personally got about 3 " of rain Saturday and Sunday. 90% of the total for the state was trapped in the guys foundation, and there was no way to get to where the wall burned except by swimming for it. Yuuuu-uuuck. No hidden fire found, by the way.
I didn't make it out unscathed however. I snagged my pants coming back through the hole, and broke my suspenders...
That is awesome, Bob!!!!
I give you lot of credit for doing what you do. You truly are an inspiration.
I hope to take the FF exam up here in MA and make the town dept. It has been a goal of mine for at least 10 years now, and within the next 3-6 months I will be good to go. My wife is not a fan but she knows it is important to me.
