Hey guys,
I'm starting the Slim Fast diet to lose a few pounds before my final evaluation May 1. I bought a load of these before noticing that the sugar content is like 17 grams and 23 grams of Carbs. Is this the right Stuff? I'm diabetic 2 but don't have a lot of trouble with my sugar levels but I try and not drink or eat anything that is over 5-7 grams.
Directions please!?
Thanks, Bob
Hi Bob - Happy Sunday to you.....
I was put on Slim Fast pre-op, but there are two kinds of Slim Fast. There are Slim Fast "Optima" shakes, and Slim Fast "High Protein" shakes. The "High Protein" has 13 grams sugar, and 15 grams protein.
Check and see which ones you have, but it sounds like you have the "Optima" shakes. I did the "High Protein" shakes for 3 weeks pre-op and lost 25 pounds. So, they work. I was also "borderline diabetic" (not sure what my a1c number was).
Anyway, that's my experience with Slim Fast - hope that helps a little. It was hard sticking with the liquids, but it sure paid off for me. It made the difference in my surgeon doing my RNY laproscopically instead of doing an open incision......
Hang in there, and best of luck on your final evaluation. Hopefully you'll have a date VERY soon!!!!!!!!!

Bob,
I never had much success with slim fast before my WLS, and after I was not able to drink past my inital sip, due tot he sugar level. I'm was not diabetic, but the stuff just never agreed with me and never found it helped me lose weight.
My WLS doc puts all of us on Optifast for four week prior to our WLS. I lost 30 lbs by drinking 5 of these a day and eating a single balance meal during those four weeks. I was so filled up on these that I typically only had 4 of the mixed plus the single balanced meal on a given day.
As a result, I have a collection of Choc and Vanill flavored Optifast mixes left over, a little less than 2 weeks worth. After WLS these also have too high a sugar level to use, so you welcome to have them, I can ship them to you if you email me with your street address to hcroberts(at)charter.net
Best of luck,
Herb
If you want flavored protein shakes, I suggest the Syntrax products. They include the Matrix Vanilla, chocolate, and cookies and cream as well as the Nectar fruit flavors. I get mine from www.netrition.com, but they are widely available. You can mix them with a spoon or shake them up; you don't need a blender.
Bob,
Good News for you: Check out Slim-Fast Low Carb Diet drinks. They have only 6g total carbs, 1g sugar--that's right ONE GRAM!--ans ZERO sugar alcohol. Protein = 20g. All in all, they're pretty good. They can be hard to find, but Walgreens, Wal-Mart, and Target often them.

Bob, I used (and still use) SlimFast-Low-Carb VanillaCream. I use it in my coffee instead of creamer. I did back early on and just developed a taste for it. Doug’s got ‘the numbers’ for it. And it’s not that bad. I never did like any of the sweet tasting shakes And never liked them cold, But as a Coffee additive in my De-Caf, they were great….. Best Wishes- Dx
Bob, I am not a diabetic either, but, I am post op and I use the Whey Protien dry mix, my wife uses the Slim Fast shakes(she does pretty good). The Whey protien dry mix has the same effect as the Slimfast and it has 23grams of protien, 1 gram of sugar. I am not a weightloss guru but I use this stuff everyday mixed in with my coffee in the morning and have a mix for breakfast and sometimes lunch. It is basically the same but better in nitrients. Just my opinion, I get it at WalMart, they have vannilla and fruit punch also but I suggest the chocolate mixed with the 2% milk.
