Consultation Shocker!

Just a bit of a progress update: Well I and my initial consultation yesterday and I cannot get the surgery fast enough now. My plan was for late August but I am going to try and hustle thought the tests (if that is at all possible) and shoot for late June. I cannot believe how much I weigh. I have not been on a scale for more than 2 years, maybe three and figured I had maintained maybe gained 10 or even 20 but I have gained more than 60 friggen pounds!!! I now top out at 372. I can’t believe I let myself go this bad. I thought I was about 325 maybe as high as 340 but 372! I feel sick just thinking about it. I must have apologized to my wife 5 times last night for letting myself go this bad. She is so understanding and just wants me healthy. To top it all off, I also now have high blood pressure (140/100). I guess it was only just a matter of time. My next step is to knock out as much of the pre-surgery testing as possible – first stop is a general physical with my PCP. I guess the upside of it all, at 372 my PCP should be more than willing to approve a WLS.

No reason to beat yourself up about it Chris. A lot of guys are starting a lot bigger than you. You're taking the necessary steps to get it under control. Kudos.

Hey Chris, I know you feel bad, but losing control is the nature of the beast that gets us to WLS. You can probably drop a bunch of pounds now because you're aware and motivated. Try starting on a typical pre-op program of high protein, low fat, very low carbs. My doc started me on two protein shake meals and one "modest, healthy" dinner. This early out, you can probably get by with an extra protein snack or apple to help with the initial switcheroo to gettin' in shape for surgery. Sometimes, failure is a great motivator for ultimate success. You wanted WLS before, now you REALLY WANT IT. You'll get there and we'll have your spot on the loser's bench ready when you do. Good luck.

Hi Doug, I really do want to start a good pre-op diet, I would love a good head start going in. MY doc does not require one from me other than a couple of liquid only days prior but I would love to drop 20 or 30 lbs before I go in. I may look into a good protein shake for breakfast and/or lunch to start it off. Thanks for the advise and support, Chris
