UPDATE FROM DAN

Ann told me that she posted an update Tuesday after I had the trial stimulator inserted in my spine.  I believe this may be the very thing that I need for my back and legs pain.  The next step comes next Tuesday, April 17th when we go back to Avon and have the wires pulled out.  If I still feel that this is for me, then they will do the implant in about 3 to 4 Weeks.  The reason that they remove the wires that are in there now is that since the wires are coming out my back and would not be sterile enough to implant.  The Dr also wants to be sure that I have healed from this trial stimulator.  Right now I have no doubt that I want the implant done.

My responsibility between now and next Tue is to experiment with the setting strengths.   With this trial unit installed, whenever I move to a different position or caugh, or even try and push out a fart, etc. I get a stronger burst of power.  Of course that will not happen when they do the implant.  So that is the poop on the stimulator.

Wednesday afternoon I had injections put in my neck to try and stop the neck and arm pain.  I sure hope this works because if not they will have to operate and fix the bulging disc.  The doc said it would take up to 7 days to determine whether the injections are working.  After getting the injections put in I found that I had no use of my left arm.  It felt like it was just hanging there and I had no control of it.  When I got home I was zonked out and slept until 3:00 AM.  I had Ann hook the stimulator and decided to come on the board and update you all myself.

Ann and I pray that in a few weeks I will be back to a more normal life and can get out and exercise.  Also that Ann does not have to do as many things for me.

I guess it is time to go back to bed for a few hours.

Thanks to all of you wonderful people that have given me so much love, prayers, and concerns during my WLS journey.

One last thing I want to pass on, especially those considering WLS, that my problems have not come about from the surgery, but rather carrying all the extra couple hundred pounds around for so many years.   So if you are thinking about WLS do it while you are younger.  I am convinced that if I had not had the WLS at age 62 I would not be around now at 64.

Hey Dan, I hope you've found the solution to your pain.  I'm 40, and one of the factors that led to my ultimate decision to have WLS this year, was the fact that my back and joints hurt so badly.  I was/am facing a knee replacement, but I'm hopeful that with my weightloss I will not need one, and that my back pain will become more manageable. Thanks for sharing your journey, and I truly hope that you have found a solution to get you back up and into life. Chuck

Chuck I sure hope that your weight loss will solve your back and knee problems.  I had my left knee replaced 6 months after my WLS.  I knew for a couple years before my WLS that my knee had to be replaced but had to loose weight before that could occur.  It really solved my knee problem. If you do not get relief with the back problems, here is a link to the stimulator procedure I doing. https://www.ans-medical.com/patient/ Dan
