I saw the first plastic surgeon that I am interviewing and he recommeded a Fleur-de-lis Abdominoplasty and Belt Lipectomy. I am not all that crazy about extending the scar from my open RNY but what he said did make some sense. Any one know any good sites that I can go to for more information and does 23,500 sound like a lot to anyone else? I will be a self pay. Doug.

You might want to consider traveling outside MA for surgery...for 23K you can get dr. hurwitz whose a WLS reconstruction master (his prices range from like 25 to 50K).  23k sounds like a lot just for a LBL.  Scott

here are some web sites to start with: www.plasticsurgery.org www.yourplasticsurgeryguide.com http://www.withoutlipo.com/tummytuck.asp http://www.makemeheal.com/mmh/home.do www.doctorssayyes.com $23,500 sounds a bit high to me.  I paid $15,000 for a tummy tuck; lipo of the flanks; and pubic area; I was a self pay also.  I'm satisfied with my surgery; i feel I look better; now just to find the time to exercise to keep the appearance up. hope this helps.  mark

Hi Doug, I had the anchor cut panniculectomy or fleur-de-lis as you call it.  I did not have the belt lipectomy.  I also had a major abdominal hernia repaired.  I was an open rny and the plastic surgeon started at my sternum and cut to within two inches of Mr. Happy and then went from hip to hip and it looks like an anchor.  I had to spend 5 days in the hospital because of the hernia repair.  I had an on-q pump for pain and morphine to press as needed.  The pain was minor.  I was out of work for two weeks and then returned to a normal desk job. The surgeon gave me a new belly button in the process and it is so cool (if belly buttons can be cool).  I was not a self-pay and my insurance covered all but $150.00.  The entire bill to my insurance company was $21,500.00.  That was for 2 surgeons (hernia and plastic surgeon) 5 days in the hospital and all after care by both docs.  I think that is a bit high what you were quoted.
