As of today I b 18 days postop from my lap rny. 5 days back I woke up with a sore right foot. Pain in the heel area and the achilles tendon. Hard to put weight on it. It felt a little better as the day progressed. The next day same thing. Went for a drive that morning with family to run errands. The foot got worse by the time i got home. That night off to the emergency room on crutches.  No antiinflamatories so a sript for percadan and an ace bandage and home again. My surgeon recommended either an orthopedic doc or a podiatrist. The orhto he recommended can,t see me till may 17th. I pted for the podiatrist who I will see today.  Real weird thing as I have not been on my feet anywhere near as much as usual. I did pop my achilies tendon back in 91 on the same foot but never hade a problem with it.  Any insight or advice would be apreciated.  Thanxs,  Tony J.

Planter faciitis... When i had this it occurs first thing in the morning ,,,,,, can't hardly walk then about 15 minutes of hobbling around pain subsides. My cure is kinda weird but worked for me. Found it on internet somewhere. I went out and bought a pair of tennis with good arch supports. At night I would wear them to bed. I did this for a month. Then i havent had to do it since. It is my understanding that your tendon heal a bit while you sleep and then to rip them again when you first put pressure on them. So sleeping with  the shoes on the tendon heals in the correct postion. Hope this helps BIGGS

Take care
God Bless

I had extreme foot pain after my surgery.  I saw a podiatrist who felt it wasn't mechanical in nature and was not interested.  I never really got a good diagnosis but associated it with the gout I had prior to and after surgery.  I gained some relief from colchicine.  It improved after a few months.

Wow months! I think the good Lord is trying to teach me patience again. I have been crawling the walls during recovery as it is. Now I am on crutches and more pain pills. Aaaahhhhh!

Hang in there Pepper, I have that  and it's probably the most pain I've felt ever, like a sharp 4' long needle being pushed i...well you know.  Anyway, arch support and time made it go away, mornings were worse and then during the day it subsided and next morning same thing until one day - nothing.  So hope yours go away sooner.

Oh!  I feel your pain, to use a way over-used phrase!  I suffered from this same thing pre-surgery, was recommended to try the "Walk-Fit" inserts...bought them off Ebay, but I think you can find them at Target and I'm sure others.  I wouldn't be without them now!

I also have had this condition for years, on occasions where it has gotten really bad the podiatrist has given me a cortisone shot in the heel, that is painful when the shot goes in but oh does it help.  To help relieve the ongoing condition the podiatrist fitted me with orthotics that they made from a mold of my foot.  He also suggested buying a pair of New Balance Tennis Shoes as they are the best in the market for ankle support, get the model with double roll bars.  Since my VSG in January the feet have not bothered me near as much.

Thanxs to all for the info. I am looking into all avenues for treatment, excersises, and relief! Can never get a doctors appt when you need one. 6 weeks for the orhtopedic guy and still waiting to here from the podiatrist.  One word of caution to anyone awaiting surgery. IF YOU WILL BE SLEEPING IN A RECLINER WITH YOUR FEET HANGING OVER THE EDGE, SUPPORT THEM WITH SHOES OF SOME SORT! I WOULD THINK HIGH TOP SNEAKERS OF SOME SORT! I truly believe that my feet dangling over the edge led to the onset of my foot condition. Fraternally, Tony J.

i had a bad case of this and had a "sugery" to fix it that was coverd by my insurance co.  i dont know wht the procedure was called but if you ask you podiatrist they should know about it. My feet were injected with numbing medicine then a sonic machine bombarded my arches with sonic waves...the same way they break up kidney stones.very little pain more like discomfort. the whole procedure took about 1 hr for both feet. i had to stay off my feet for about 2 days but with crutches you can get by. it takes about 6 months to really heal but you will feel better in a few weeks.  it is now been about 1 1/2 years and i have no more problem...even in the morning i just get right out of bed no more stretching my arches before i can move.   look in to it.  it was well worth it. adam
