Have a cup of Coffee for me..............

With the research (and great feedback you guys gave me a couple days ago), I've decided to not have any coffee until I'm a few months out.  I am not worried about the caffiene, but I've decided to give my pouch more time to heal before I expose it to the tannic acids from the coffee. It's funny - I "detoxed" off coffee during my 3 week pre-op diet, and didn't miss it at all during my first 3 weeks post-op, but this past week has been NUTS!!!!   I'm 4 weeks post-op tomorrow, and every morning I wake up CRAVING coffee - and, decaf sounds great to me - I just want the flavor of it.  And, I'm sure it's the ritual and routine of my "morning coffee" as well...... Anyway, it's a small thing to sacrafice for a couple more months to ensure that my pouch heals correctly.  Thanks for letting me whine about it this morning before I take off to work.  At least I can smell everyone else's coffee when I get to work Everyone have a Great Day today, Chuck

Hang in there Chuck, caffiene is tough. My source was diet soda. I didn't think I would be able to stop, but next week will be one year without soda. I guess I survived after all. I drink SF Kool Aid or Crystal Light at home and keep those little pouches at work to add to bottled water. It helped my blood pressure as well.  I saw on TV once that caffiene is one of the most addictive substances there is and people do suffer withdraws from it.  pan head

Chuck, Actually ,I am sipping on a Starbucks dark roast right now.  Tastes pretty good.  However, I waited six weeks after my VSG to drink coffee or tea.  This is only my third cup in three weeks.  If we can give up the excess food, we can give up the coffee for a while. Hang in there, Kent

Chuck, I feel your pain. Pre-WLS the thought of giving up coffee bothered me more than all of the other resrictions and new actions I was expected to undertake. Bothered me more than giving my inifitude of tasty treats, even. But I did and am gald I did. Now, almost 8 months out, when I have a cup of decaf or half-caf, it tastes better than ever. Hang in there--and when you can indulge again, treat yourself to some high-quality coffee (whatever your favorite is). You'll be drinking less and enjoying it more than you can imagine right now.

Hi Chuck,

I know what you are saying. I have been put on an 1800 calorie dies to 3 months and MUST quit all caffeine intake. I drank 14 cups a day. In one week I have brought that down to 6 cups. My NUT told me to do it a week at a time and do my best to be fully off caffeine by the end of the first month. I also drank a lot of ice tea. NO MORE.

You are right though, It is a small sacrifice to make looking at the big picture.

Hans...

Lord, for those who are still struggling, give them the courage to hold on. For those who have won, send them to encourage others

Thanks for the responses guys  - I just finished lunch and I'm sitting at my desk feeling grateful that I was able to add nuts to my diet this week!!!!   Feeling deprived is a HUGE trigger for me, so I'm focusing on the fact that since I'm 4 weeks out tomorrow, I have new food choices (nuts, ground beef, chicken, fish, shrimp).   This way I don't focus on the coffee so much LOL. Plus, I found those Citracal Creamy Chocolate chews and I'm having one at the end of each meal - very tasty treat at the end of my little meal. Chuck

I must have missed your coffee questions, Chuck.  I probably wouldn't have been much help. I didn't stay off coffee long.  about four days before I was having lattes again with fat free milk.  It's my one remaining vice, but I'm glad you have decided to wait awhile. As for the citrical chews.  I loved them!  Then one day they just repulsed me.  I physically could not make myself swallow them anymore so i switched to the citrical tablets. Sounds like you are doing great at 4 weeks!  Hang in. It keeps getting better and better.
