The closer I get to surgery the more worried I get.  Tuesday, I have my next Psychological meeting.  If he says again, "I think you would do fine with the Bariatric Surgery, however....."   Grrrrrowl.

Bob, I don't know about the other surgeries, but lapband was a breeze to me. A couple of Morphine shots on surgery day, some pills the next couple of days, and I did not empty the pain killer bottle they prescribed. And normally I like taking that stuff (Morphine derivate), so I think that says it all. I was driving my car 2 days after surgery, and my wife was telling me to slow down from there on, since I was trying to lift some things that were a little too heavy too soon. I am a pain wuss by the way, I don't like pain, ans will take pain killers for all reasons. I had Hemoroid surgery a long time ago, and probably need it again, and that was more painful. So if lapband is your choice, don't fret it. I think the pre-op diet is worse. Take care.

Regards,
Marcel

Hi Bob,

It really isn't that bad for most people. I stopped all pain meds by noon the day after surgery. Just an occasional cramp here, muscle pain there, mostly from being inflated and strapped in the cross (airplane) position. The actual internal part of the abdomen doesn't seem to get that much sharp pain. It's kind of like someone punched you in the stomach 3-5 minutes ago, that kind of pain.

Bob, the pain for me was about the same as doing too much over the weekend.  Not that bad.  I had RNY.  The most painful part was the 5 seconds or so it took to remove the drain.  And that was it.

Hey Bob,  I had open RNY, and it still wasn't too bad. Sitting down, lying down and walking caused no pain at all. Standing up, on the other hand, was painful. The worst of the pain lasted 3 days, then it dropped way down after that. If you look at the big picture of the journey, the surgery pain is insignificant. Ronnie

I had OPEN RNY, I was in pain but  I survived and would do it again.  I don't sugar coat things very well so I say this.  No pain No loss.  You will be fine.   Plus they give you great pain meds.

Bob, For me the pain was not bad at all.  I did have some on the day of surgery, but the pain meds worked very well.  After one day, I was able to stop the pain meds completely.  I was really surprised that I was able to bounce back so quickly and experience very little pain overall.  I guess these are the benefits of laproscopic surgery.

The pain isn't that bad.  my wife says i can't handle even the slightest bit of discomfort (and she is right about that.).  I did take all the pain meds the doc gave me;  probably didn't need to but why risk it.  They give you (well, not GIVE... but you know) pain meds to keep it tolerable.  Just stay ahead of the pain curve.  the first couple of days take the pain meds right on schedule.  my wife set the alarm clock and got me up every four hours to take the meds the first couple of days.  after that only a coulple during the day.   best wishes for a successful surgery.    mark

Ok to be honest, I cursed everyone on this forum who said "the pain wasn't that bad" the day i had surgery and the next few days afterwards.  I never had surgery before and it HURT.   I thought i knew about pain, but it was nothing compared to having surgery (WLS was my first)...but the pain fades quickly...by day 2 or 3 it was really managable by the pain pump....remember the pump is your friend...lol.  Scott
