Greetings Locker Room -=- I had the LAP RNY 11/22/06, since about 8 weeks out, I had the feeling of heart burn-reflux after starting to eat. It didn't matter what it was. At my 8 week check I had mentioned it and the doc said to let him know on the 3 month check.  At the 3month check I complained of the same symptoms. They finally ordered an Upper GI and the surgeon just called me 12 days later with tthe above diagnosis.   This ZD is a pouch that is formed in the throat around the pharynx. Mine is about 3-5mm. There are surgeries to correct this condition. My surgeons have done many RNY and BAND procedures and have never seen one of these, they say.  I will be going down to LA next week to see my surgeon and then to a Head and Neck surgeon for his opinion.   Fun news on a Friday, when you can't talk to any medical official. Anyone ever heard of  this? Thanks for listening.

Thats a new one for me.  I progressed from Tagament to Prilosec, then to Protonix.  Then they did a Endoscopy and found the banded opening into the RNY pouch had almost closed.  It was too small to get the scope in.  So they stretched the opening (my surgeon puts a small plastic band arounf the throst just before it goes into the stomach to make the reduced intake a long term affair, keeping it from stretching out as fast as it would naturally.  I've been better ever since.  At 6 months we are now trying life without protonix for hearburn and nausea. I am glad they found your problem and hope they fix you up sooner than later. Take care of yourself Kim.

Wow! That puts a whole new perspective on things. Why is some people breeze through the whole WLS process with no problems and great results. While others develop issues ranging from annoying to life threatening? There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Hang in there, buddy. Even though the name of you ailment sounds imposing and intimidating, I'm sure it's nothing a skilled surgeon can't make quick work of. Keep me posted. DD If you believe in karma, this is your punishment for working on Nixon's campaign. LOL!
