Five weeks postop Lap RNY
Thought I'd do some sharing...
After five weeks, I'm down 35 pounds.
Totally off Type 2 diabetes meds.
I was wearing 50" slacks preop -- imagine my surprise when I fit into an older pair of 46" jeans. FART!
I'm drinking my water and taking my multi/B12/calcium diligently.
I'm on soft foods, doing OK. When I eat too fast, or too much, or take too big a bite, I don't dump up and out -- but I do dump down and out (how's that for subtlety?). This happens less frequently as time goes by and my feeble brain gradually learns.
As soon as I went on soft foods, I plateaued for a week+, but kept losing inches. Since then, I have found that I lose weight when:
I exercise at least every other day (1/2 hour walking, exercise bike, or treadmill), and
I take a mega protein supplement drink in place of one meal (eating every 3-4 hours per my Nut). Right now I'm using the New Whey liquid protein, 42g per 3.1 ounces. For those of you who say it tastes just like liquid Jello -- well, you're optimists. It's manageable, but I'm going to start alternating it with the Isopure zero carb 40g protein/20 oz. bottles for variety's sake.
Seems like the protein boost (in addition to 40-60g from food), in combination with the exercise, puts me into some level of ketosis for at least part of the day, and that leads to weight loss. I get the crappy breath associated with ketosis most strongly after I do the protein supplement.
It works. Life is good. Those little Listerine breath strips are essential.
Thanks to all for your help.

way to go Jeff....I make a chocolate shake that tasts just like Dairy Queen. I use about 12 oz of 1% milk, a touch of sweet & Low, a teaspoon of Coco powder (the unsweetened kind) and a scoup of the Chocolate whey protein powder I bought from Krogers. Then I put it into a blender. The whey gives it 23 gr of protein and the milk adds about 8 gr of protein for a total of 31 grams all together..... Tastes pretty good!

Thanks for the look into my future. I started my pre-op diet today. My Doc doesn't do the liquid diet, but it's all protein. I had a protein bar this morning and another one now. Yummy. 2 weeks of this and I'll be ready for a labotomy. The month after surgery doesn't sound real appealing either.
I quess it's the price I pay for never learning to say, "NO!" when they asked, "Supersize that today, sir?" or "Anyone care for dessert?".
Keep up the good work, and let us know how you're progressing.

Way to go DD.
You crack me up man!!
Just keep reminding yourself that after surgery, the hunger isn't there.
Protein Man,...I use the spray Listerine pocket shooter and feel your pain on the Breath thing. Thanks for the mega-protein mixture recipe and the puesdo DQ concoction it brought to light.
Is this a great board of guys and ideas or what????
