Hey boys,   I started my weight training about 3 weeks ago and am finally seeing a little results. One question though, I am used to working out as an offensive linemen. Big weight, low reps. What is the best way to lift? Should I do less weight and more reps or should I go more weight less reps?

My advice, GO SLOW. You're not a lineman anymore. Your body's aged and doesn't respond like it did during your stallion years. If you want to bulk up. It's still heavy weights, low reps. You want to cut, lighter weight- more reps. I would encourage flexibility training and proper warm-up and cool down as well. Listen to your body and train for the long haul, not the sprint to lost youth. DD

That was some great advice there.  Way to go DD. Do 3 to 4 sets amd max out on the last set of reps if your don't naturally.  If you can do more that 12-15 reps on that last set you need more weight, if you are trying to bulk up. If you are trying to keep from gettng flabby in the upper body, don't forget the basics; curls, flys, rows, bench, dips, pushup, pull ups, and situp/crunches.   Reps will get you toned and tight, just use a weight you can keep good form with however many reps you are knocking down. Good job staying with a program and getting results your feel good about. You may want to scroll through the posts on the Mens Board.  CarbonBlob had a really good post about the basics and your very question a week or so ago.

Hey Tom, If you're seeing results, keep doing what you're doing. If it ain't broke don't fix it.  The others gave some good advice. Mainly, don't literally bust a gut trying to do too much, too soon.  Gradually build back up. I'm just now, after almost 3 years of training, getting back to my pre surgery lifts, but now I'm at a lighter bodyweight lifting just as much...almost. Reps, weights and sets are all relative. It all depends on your goals and training temperament. At first, if you haven't trained for awhile...everything and anything will work for you. Stop by the fitness forum...
