New diet New Start.

Seen my NUT today; She put me on an 1800 calorie diet for the next 3 months then I get put on 3 weeks of liquids before the operation. DR. wants me to loose a little weight before surgery. Depending on how long AENTA drags things out; they say if all goes well it should be late July / August.  Part of ATENA’s plan to discourage me. “HA I say”! My count down has begun. I also seen the Therapist today and had my EVAL. It was a long day. I don’t see any problems with the EVAL.

Best of luck on the journey, Hans. My tips: Miso, Unjury unflavored protein mixed with Crystal Light, Prayer etc... I like your little prayer signature. It reminded me of one I heard a long time ago when I was a missionary. "Let those who love us, love us. And those who do not love us, may you turn their hearts that they may love us. And those who will not turn their hearts, may you turn their ankles that we may know them by thier limping." --Jake

Hay Jake, Thanks for the tips. I will add them to my book. The Doc gave me a book of do's and dont's along with some great info on the procedure and diet. This needs to go into the diet section.

Hay Paul,

First thanks. I have read many of your posts and have found them very informative.

I have read your profile many times. I was denied last Aug because of a written exclusion. You responded to my plea then. Law in MD changed and now my company has to include WLS.

I understand about the diet, I guess what I was meaning was the delays they put you through. My surgeon’s office told me that ATENA would have required a 6 month diet if the request was coming from my PCP but because his office is requiring it only a 3 month is required. He explained to me the 3 week liquid diet saying about the same thing you said. It is help me in the long run with the surgery and preparing me for the weeks to follow.

Thanks and keep the good info coming

You are so right. After reading and thinking it is better then to just jump in. I also dont want any problems if I can prevent them.

Congrats on moving forward.   I was a private pay, and I also had a pre-op diet (to make the surgery safer).   It was a great jumpstart to the weight loss, and I'm sure it had a big impact on the fact that I had zero complications post-op (so far anyway, I'm 3 weeks out tomorrow). Best of luck in your journey - it sounds like you are very determined, and attitude is a huge part of making this successful.   Ask for help with meal suggestions when you need it - the same things can get old VERY fast.... Thanks Chuck, Everyone tells me that the months will fly by. I will ask when the time comes. I am sure I will have many questions that I have not thought of yet.

Hans My Ins co waived the 6 month sup. diet, but my surgeon still had me to do a 2 week liquid diet to help shrink my liver and make the proceedure easier for him.  After surgery he told me that eventhough I lost 25lbs pre op my liver was still pretty big and was glad that I had lost as much as I did otherwise he might have needed to do my surgery open. Time will fly and you will have your new birthday sooner than later.  It is worth the wait, GOD Bless! Chris
