And man... this really sucks.  My stomach hurts so much (i think it's just the incision)  But I can't stretch my belly.  I'm so used to moving so easily   1-hour of walking at the park was nothing to me.  And I could wipe my own ass then, too!  I'm also having the hardest time getting down protein puree.  Like it gets stuck in my chest.  Today I managed to get down some pureed tofu, lean turkey, and chicken broth. Bah, I'm just venting.  I'm just waiting for that "this too will pass" point to go by. Zedrick

Didn't your Dr. tell you clear liquids for atleast the first week. That goes for the protein shakes as well,  not yet dude, take it easy, your stomach isnt ready for that stuff.  Just relax and take the pain meds, try to get some rest and hopefully it will feel better soon.  As for wiping your ass yep that really sucked. My wife had to do that for me, but I had to do it for her when she had her surgery so it worked out, but still sucked. Hang in there dude the worst is realy over.

Get a few Isopure pure protein shakes and sugar free fruit punch from Wal-Mart or some grocery store.  These will help with your stomach and getting in the fluids and protein you need.  Make sure you crush any pills you are taking too.  I'm a little concerned in the advice your surgeon gave you if he has you pureeing food at this point.  See Marcel's post from a few days back.  He ended up back in the ER.   You want to be on pure liquids right now so you can heal.  Trust us, all of the pain is internal.  They did a lot of work in there.  You are doing your insides no favor by moving to pureed food at this point.  Liquids..... Hope this helps.  enjoy the pain meds and rest, walk, rest.  Sip, sip, sip. It gets better.

Glad you're home. As for the puree, check back with your doc. Many of us were on broth (bouillon), sugar-free jello and sugar-free popsicles for the first two weeks. Not too satisfying, but safe. Also, if you had lapro, some of your disconfort may be due to the air and saline solution that were pumped into your stomach to expand it so the doc could operate. When I got home, I was 20+ lbs heavier than the day of surgery! Boy was that a shock. It really does get better and it REALLY, REALLY is WORTH all the present discomfort. Hang in there. You'll be feeling better sooner than you might think.

i was told a pureed diet was okay once I got home, i mostly ate yogurt and drank fluids,  and had protein shakes... all was fine, after 3 wk check up i was given the ok to add more normal foods back into my diet. but of course if you have any problems you can always go back to the liquid diet

Zedrick, Welcome to the loser’s bench!   You are correct about the “this too shall pass”; it will.  Each day gets a little better.  Just eat what you’re supposed to, drink a lot of water, and go for several shorts walks a day.   A couple of things that help me get over the pain from the surgery were wearing a belly binder when walking and using a heating pad in the small of my back when I was sitting in my EZ chair.  These really helped in the first couple of weeks.

Good Evening Zedrick,  Did you have open RNY? I did. It was much more painful than I had imagined. Once you are one week or so post-op the pain will decrease lots. After two weeks you will start to feel like your old self again. Enjoy not being hungry, very rapid weight loss in the beginning, and the pain meds. Make sure when you drink liquids to take the liquid in your mouth without swallowing, then close your mouth completely sealing your lips together, then swallow. It sounds retarded, but it helps so much to cut down on the gas. Remember, your stomach is only 1 oz. and it only takes a small amount of gas to make you feel bloated. Be patient. You're doing great so far. Let us in on your continued progress.
