Plateau started 2 weeks after surgery!
Kev, You’re right on schedule!! Many, Many, Many WLS folk**** a stall around the end of the first month. I’ve been reading these Boards since ’02 and by now it’s Old-news! Many refer to it as "Hibernation Syndrome." At around 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the individual’s metabolism, The body ‘perceives’ that- "This guy is going to starve us to death!!" And it responds by turning down the fuel consumption and hanging onto Every spare calorie. Ok, "the Body" doesn’t "Perceive" nor does it "decide," But, hormonal and chemical responses to the lowered caloric intake Trigger the liver to release hormones that slow the resting metabolic rate. Feeling colder/cooler? That’s one objective, measurable metabolic change as the body burns less fuel while at rest. What is your calorie intake these days? Many find that by upping their water intake And increasing their low-fat calorie intake (predominantly Protein) The metabolism responds by returning to higher metabolic rate And the "Stall" -breaks. 900 cals a day? Try adding another 120 Calories of protein (not fat or carbs) And watch the change. Your Mileage May Vary, but 5 years of reading these boards would lead me to believe it’s so. Just my feedback! Best Wishes- Dx
I was just about to post something similar myself. I'm 3 weeks out, from lap RNY and have lost 45 pounds, but none in the last 10 days. I'm following all the rules. I figured it was a "starving" reaction from my body. I mean how could I not be losing weight at 750 cals/day? I've just started upping the H2O, but I'll try the slight calorie increase and see what happens. Thanks for the info.
