Ham...nitrates...dumping??
Can someone give me more info about how nitrates can cause dumping. I had never really thought they could. Yet, when I eat ham, hot dogs, or bacon my stomach disagrees with it. I have dumped only once and I had eaten a cream soup and some ham. I thought it was the fat from the cream soup. Could it have been the nitrates? Do nitrates affect RNY? I posted this on the Main Forum too. Brian
Brian,
By "dumping" what's the symptoms?
Sugar cured ham?
Ham causes Many to have problems, as does pork in most forms,
But it's usually cases of "the Foamies."
Gaking up rather than Blood Sugar spikes and diahrrea...
Haven't heard of nitrates ...But, there's always something new cropping up.
Hope you're doing fine now...
Best Wishes-

Hey Brian,
I'm thinking the culprit may be something other then the ham.....the startch in the potatoes, could make you dump, and the cream in the soup, would send me trotting to the bathroom...
the nitrates in a hot dawg will give me a blod pressure headache...
How have you done, with these items seperate????
you might wanna start the process of elimination...no pun intended....(elimination...get it???)

That is why it is so hard to figure out. It lasted 8-12 hours!! I don't think it was food poisoning. I had diarrhea for that long. Was was worrying so much about dehydration. I was constantly drinking water and it was going through me. I finally called my PCP and he OKed Imodium AD. I took it and was fine in a few hours. Only a small percentage of people have this severe dumping. I am the lucky ones, but it has been only once. So still the question remains...was it dumping from fats or dumping or an allergic reaction to nitrates.
And of course, it could have not been what you ate, but rather how you ate. Posture, Pace, etc???
And the possibility that you managed to pick up a short lived virus or such.
And it could have just been a "bad pouch day".
I hope you find the source so you don't have to go through it again if it's avoidable.
