Consult Tomorrow
Well guys, tomorrow I meet the surgeon to see if he thinks I'm a good candidate for WLS. Must admit I'm alittle nervous. So many questions running through my mind. Also I'm alittle concerned (probably shouldn't be) about my weight. If I haven't said so before, I probably would qualify as a "lightweight". I'm 5'10" and my weight should be 278 to give me the BMI of 40. I was 291 on Jan 15th @ my last check-up when my primary agreed that WLS would be a good choice. After going for my psych eval the psychologist agreed to clear me for the surgery if I would (1)do something about depression and (2) get off the soda and junk food. Well I've done both, I'm on Effexor, doing therapy to help identify what my "triggers" are, and just basically started eating healthier. The weight dropped down to 281 - 283 and blood sugars came down. The last Thursday the good ol' stomach flu hit. I was puking and crappin for 2 days and dropped 8 lbs. Just alittle worried if I'm not the 278 at my first visit to the surgeon that my insurance might give me a hard time or make me wait.
This may qualify as the worst advice given here on the board..... How about wearing some heavy clothes to the consult. Work boots, jeans, undershirt w/long sleeve shirt over it. Don't laugh because it might give those few extra pounds needed to qualify with your insurance. Just a dumb@$$ed thought!
Hey Don,
Thanks. I look at it as "pay it forward." When I was pre-op, and newly post-op, the guys on this board gave me much needed encouragment and advice. It was invaluable to me because they had already gone through what I was going through. I still look to those that are further along than I, and hope to be looked up to by those that aren't so far along. I'm not a medical expert, and don't give expert advice. The only "words of wisdom" that I can give about WLS is what I've learned from my journey so far.
We've lived in McKinney for a little over a year. We moved here from southern Oklahoma for my wife's job. I recently graduated from the university in Durant, Oklahoma and hope to find a job in this area as well.
Hey Don, I was 287 at post op. I guess it depends on your Dr. What was your weight when you were referred to the WLS surgeon by your regular Dr? I dont know for sure but I would hope it counted ho heavy you were when you started your journey. I would do what he said and try to wear some heavy clothes. Drink alot of water before you go in, have a large breakfast, large lunch? I know it sounds like cheating but you might want to consider it. If you have health issues then I think your bmi can be as low as 35? Good luck and keep me posted, I would love to know what he says.
