Fluid intake? Sipping/chewing ice and water constantly. Getting 4 sugars a day. Popsicle, fruit bar, juice, and broth.

Any way to tell if is enough or too much?

Mobility?

Surgery was Thursday AM.  RNY plus Gallbladder removal. Ten incisions including the drain bag. Getting to the john on my own and a very short walk afterwards.  Maybe another 10 to 30 feet depending. Winded and sore.

Good, average, bad?

Pain?

Still in the recliner. Can't lay flat on the bed yet. Taking Roxicet every 4 hours, a 5mg dose. Sometimes good for all 4 hours, sometimes not. Still getting a burn in the stomach.  Not sure from what, surgery, fluid intake either too much or little? Normal?

Hey R Anthony, Congratulations on Making on to the ‘Loser’s Bench!’ Fluid intake? Sounds good. Got a GNC nearby? A little bit of ZeroCarb Isopure sneakily slipped into your liquids would add protein without any addition work or effort. Mobility? Try to get a little walking in every 2 hours while you’re awake. It’s not about exercise at all, But about blood flow through your legs to prevent blood clots. Even the smallest amount of walking helps. Do what you can with in reason. Pain? Yeah, this is the Hard Part. Heating pad on your back will help, as does the walking. Not only does it help the gas pass on through But increased circulation gets rid of the aches sooner. "Still getting a burn in the stomach." – That One? Not so sure…. Watch your temperature and keep the Doc on speed-dial no matter how good you feel During the first week. Normal? Sounds it. Most everyone spends the first 5 to 10 days thinking- "What The "F-k" did I do to Myself?!?!?!" Take it easy and get your rest. And just remember- "IT DOES GET EASIER EACH WEEK!" Best Wishes- Dx

Hi, Just had laproscopic RNY 03/16/07.  Sounds like you are about on the same track as I was last week.  Are you getting protein?   My surgery and recovery is going so well it kind of scares me!  Slept all through the night last night (in a regular bed).  Took me about 6-7 days post op to sleep in bed.   Roxicet maybe part of what is causing burn in stomach.  Ask Dr. if he could try something else.  Even though my old stomach was sensitive to Oxycode products (Vidocin, Roxicet, etc) I have had no problems with my new stomach.  I used liquid Loratab.  Is the Roxicet in liquid form?  I would assume it is as that would be a decent sized pill to put in the new pouch.

Congrats evmocas on your sucessful surgery and continued luck with recovery.  No protien yet. Doc says no untill followup on friday. Can't wait to be back in my own bed. Stomach burn has subsided. Cut out the broth from my diet. Had a big problem with a mellon flavored popsicle last night. Naucious, sweaty, and very weak. It passed in about a half hour with the help of the roxicet. Don't think the roxicet  (liquid) is a proplem.  Getting a little better everyday. Standing straighter and walkig more. This has sure slowed time for me.

It's funny how Drs vary in their opinions.  I was immediately given milk/protein the morning after the surgery and have been told to make that most of my diet the first week.  Glad to hear that your new stomach is doing better.  Sounds like that popsicle had sugar or sugar alcohol to create that effect!
