Hi Alex, a couple of bowls of pasta a week will take care of things.  No need to go overboard but some veggie lasagna, some spaghetti a coupel of times a week and you will be good as new.

Hey Alex,

As Joe mentioned, I've been there done that! You and I are pretty much the same weight and height when we started out. I got down to 143 pounds. My loss was due to the extreme amount of pain meds I was on. they just killed my appetite. I did form a dependency on protein shakes as well because I had problems with solid food for a long time. couple that with loss of appetite and I was just shrinking away. I got the same comments from everyone too. I looked gaunt and felt underweight.

It might be a little different for me because I weight lift. Even though I lost a lot of weight I didn't look like a scarecrow. So my physique masked what was really going on underneath. I did turn this situation around. I got off the pain meds and that was a big turning point in itself. Next, I upped my protein intake but started adding beef to my diet. I was slowly able to tolorate just that type of meat. I never went in for the protein bars, too much like candy for me. Then I added creatine in my shakes. This was mainly for working out, recovery for muscles etc. However, this suppliment will add a solid 5 pounds of water to you so that got me up to about 150 pounds. Since this aided in my ability to lift more I've added about another 2 pounds of lean muscle mass. So now I hover around 152 to 153 pounds all the time.

My weight gain really has nothing to do with your experience though. I agree with the other posters that you might want to seek help with your depression about the situation. That can have a huge effect on how you eat. I would find a replacement doc asap because that is priority number one. You have to have a bariatric doc who knows you and the surgery. So I would follow Dx's advice on the eating and protein course and take to heart what the other guys said as well. It's very easy for us to become depressed in our journey. That has a profound effect on our eating or lack of eating. I always say we have to get our heads and ass wired together and this is a perfect example. We have to fire on all cylinders to make this surgery work for the long haul. We can upset our balance in so many ways. Keep us posted and good luck. I think it was a very good idea to come here and ask us what's going on. We're here for ya.......Carbonblob

thanks for the compliment and I know what you mean about this forum. it's been a lifesaver for me as well. it's a whole new experience for me and it's been the greatest thing for me. i guess deep down i really needed to share my journey and ask for help along the way. what we chose to do, this surgery, is a major decision in our lives. i really didn't think it was that big a deal only to find this really was a life changer. i'm very thankful these guys are here and we're all man enough to open up and spill our guts without fear of being labeled or humiliated for our feelings on a variety of subjects. so keep coming back because i think this forum is the best medicine......carbonblob

Like others... I know what it is like to lose too much.  May I suggest adding foods if possible that are higher in calorie..but sugar free.  Ice cream, cookies, etc.  I know it seems odd to add calories...but as they said..add the protein bars...meal replacement bars...etc..  Your body will stabilize...when it is ready....and it should be happening soon... HAVE faith that things will work out okay.... I know they will...
