Running on Empty
Happy Tuesday Morning guys!
I got a new mystery that I'm betting is not a mystery to you post-op pros.
I woke up this morning and felt completely and totally drained.
I stumbled into the kitchen bouncing off both hallway walls and took my meds and vitamins. Stumbled back to the bed and checked my BP that said it was 168 over 100. I felt like 20 over 10. I laid back down for an hour then got up, weighed (down another pound from yesterday) and went into the kitchen and had a protein bar, oatmeal bar, and 8 oz of water. Laid back down for another hour then got up and got ready for work. I feel better but very washed out. I recently upped my B12 intake from 500 mcg to 2000 and added a B1 (thiamine) supplement because of what I have been reading about memory loss and confusion improved by increased B1. My iron was upped by the surgeon at my first 3 month followup (last visit). I was increased from the multivitamin with 18 mg of iron to a prenatal multivitamin with 28 mg twice a day. Calcium Citrate was included at least 2 hours before or after the iron is taken.
I did a 10K Sunday in prep for the formal 10K race March 31 and have been tired since but not drained like this morning. ( I've been doing 2-4 miles at least every other day as training since January when I regisitered).
It might be a fluke but any experience or things I might should address would be apprecitaed. It wasn't a good feeling this a.m. My 2nd 3 month followup is April 5. I am hoping to have inspiring race story and a weight in the 250 range. (263 this morning, 12 days to race and 17 to visit).
Thanks for any input guys.
could be a million things Joe as you know. we all have good and bad days. i would hold off and see if you caught something. there's a lot of flu going around right now. sometimes the exercise can be very taxing. sometimes we just don't recover fast for a variety of reasons. maybe you need a couple of days off from running. you heal when you rest. also, are you getting a full nights sleep? if you're getting up or restless that will cut into the deep stage four sleep you need to recover. of course you may have a vitamin problem as you eluded to. I guess I would take a little more time off from the running. It won't hurt to stop training an extra day or two. you have plenty of time before the race starts. good luck......CB
Thanks CB. I don't think its the flu. I just had that a week ago,.......couldn't be that again.
I did the 10K loop here (I work on an Army installation) at work again today at lunch. I took Monday off unintentionally so I 've had a day off. I jogged the first 2 .5 miles and walked the last 3.5. I had planned to ty and jog more on the end side but the legs were wasted and I still had to finish the day at work. So I walked it in. I drank a Boost Diabetic protein drink then some lasagna and finally a Sobe Lean drink to try to get some energy back. I'm sure as I survive this, I will be stronger for it.
I just hope I am not so fried in the morning. But you may be right-on as my brother tells me that he is more tired two days out from doing the 10K than he is the day after. I just want to get this thing figured out so I peak for the race and can still function in my daily routine.
My strategy was to be doing 10K with enough regularity that race day was a no brainer; the body was trained. I didn't anticipate the body being so resistant.
