I'm on the 5th day of my 14 Day Pre-Op Optifast Diet.  Man I was at my Son's Lacrosse' Game tonight, and they had the Burgers and Hot Dogs, Italian Sausage Cooking away...I wanted to just eat the Air!  It smelled so good, but it was torture!  Anyway, on my Optifast Sheet it says I can have Chicken Boullion, is there some special kind I should look for?  Or will any old Chicken Boullion due?

Thanks Guys~~

Rocko, Those cooking smells are really tourture when you are on a liquid diet.  Hang in there, it does get better. I used the low salt chicken bouillion.  But the regular should be ok.

Rocko, any should be fine, but the low sodium will help with the weight loss because you won't be retaining as much water. Believe it or not, the smells don't elicit the same response after a month or so after WLS.  Things we ate with joy before hand actually give us an ill feeling when we smell them.  I remember this week seeing a billboard for a Big Mac and fries.  Pre-WLS I probably would have dwelled on it and stopped at the next McD's.  But when I think about it today I think about how crappy that makes me feel when I eat anything like that.   I'm not sure the smell of charred animal flesh goes away completely though...just not as strong.

Hey Rocko... Brother I feel your pain....any kind of bouillion will do, if you wanna make it in advance, you can add spices, like onion powder, garlice powder, anything in the spice cabinet, and let it simmer, that sound like a good theory, but I was a hurry up and get it in me type of guy... and man...the turkey legs are the worst Russ

Hey Rocko, I feel for you being around the cooking flesh! I had problems with that as well! I got some good information from one of the ladies actually on the california board...she chewed beef jerky and spit it out! I thought it sounded gross but after trying it, I was really happy, I got to chew on some meat and the juices were awesome and satisfying. It was kind of hard to spit it out after chewing it though, you know how good beef jerky is. As for the boullion, well, I like the powdered kind that you spoon out, it was low sodium and more flavor than the cubes. Also I would buy the Top Ramon soups and just use the seasoning packet. They have a lot of flavor as well. I feel yopur pain and good luck, hang in there, it gets easier after the operation. Ben

Hang in there, Rocko. If you're like me then days 6 and 7 will be the worst. I've heard from many, and experienced it myself, that on day 7-8 I got mean. oh well.... Just something to look out for. As for the broth. Try to get your hands on some UNJURY Chicken Broth. It's actually quite tastey (as broth goes) and touts 20g of protein. So it's a double whammy. Your surgeon may have samples. Otherwise you can go to Unjury.com. The unflavored is a life saver post op. If you like salty, Asian flavors try Miso broth. You can get miso paste at just about any natural foods store. It's kind of like salty-beany tasting. Pass that one past your doc first though. I did, and it was fine.

During my bout with the liquid pre-diet I got really good at doctoring up a mug of chicken broth!  Try a dash of garlic and a bit of sweet or smoked curry...in the end, it's still a mug of chicken juice...but at least you can pretend for a moment.  Don't stress this liquid pre thing too much Rocko.  I think it's as much about conditioning you to a "new lifestyle" as much as it is to shrink the liver and all that physiological stuff that goes along with it.  I think the more you stress and obsess, the more difficult it will be to stick with it.  LapBanding has been the right path for me...my 1st year surgiversary is coming up Wednesday and I'm diligently working to get to that century mark by then.  My own fault for not having made that goal months ago...the tool works when we allow it to!  Good luck!  You're going to continue to do great!

Rocko - Greetings

Boy have we been there! I loaded up the motor home with 2 or 3 boxes of boullion from different sources and went out and camped for 5 days.

No one to get mad at and nothing much to eat or drink.

You'll do it and the ride will be smmother for it later.

Hang in there bro.
