Monday Coffee Talk
"Know thyself" was inscribed in golden letters on the entrance to the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. It’s also attributed to no less than five Old Greeks, the most notable- Socrates. For all it matters, It’s also written in Latin (Temet Nosce) above the entrance to the Oracle’s kitchen in the movie The Matrix. What is notable is that it’s still good advice. Good Questions to find the answers to---------------
How did You- Become and remain Obese? Become out of shape? Fall into ill health? Begin to seek change? Knowing past methods, obstacles, successes, etc, will help you plan later actions that will serve you best. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses will assist you in making the best choices for your specific plan of action.
Why do You want a change? For Better Health? Fear of Death? Tired of the state you are in? Want to feel better about you? Being completely honest with your self is most helpful.
Who are You doing this for? For yourself? That’s fine, that good in fact. When working for others, you may never really know if you have succeeded.
When do You plan to tackle this? Does this fit into your life? If not now, then when?
What do You do well? Do poorly? Are you a procrastinator? Find things difficult to begin? Or, perhaps you begin easily, but find difficulty ‘finishing’ things? Specifically in the area of weight loss- What is your ‘weakness?’ Sweets? Fats? Portion Control? Eat when upset? Bored? Graze mindlessly while watching TV? All of these are different things, and will need to be treated differently.
Going back to an Old Greek, I’m sure Socrates must have advised someone- "You can fight forever and never prevail unless you know about the Achilles’ Heel." Best Wishes- Dx
