Monday I am off to meet with the surgeon, I am nervous, wondering if I can do this or not, is it right for me or not. I am looking forward to hear what he has to say about my situation and if I am looking in the right direction. I started taking meds for adult ADD this morning and am feeling abit out of sorts, kind of jittery, but I was able to get some things done today that I have been putting off for quite some time. Well, its off to get my taxes done then to drink a beer or two or more. Have a great weekend. Brian

Brian, You will have an enjoyable and informative day on Monday.  Dr. Smith, Sandy Jones, and the entire staff are very friendly and professional.  They will make you feel comfortable… although you may bit overwhelmed with information by the time you leave.  I’m sending you my private journal entry that covers my first pre-op consultation.  Look for a private message. Open a beer for me too.

May Your Lantern Burn Bright,

I believe you'll feel much better about your situation after you meet with your surgeon. One tip, write down all your questions and concerns before seeing him. I didn't, and forgot to ask most of them. Good luck. Careful mixing your meds and alcohol. That's usually how I end up with another kid. DD

I felt so much better after getting my physical exam by the surgeon.  My BMI was 60, and my weight was 547- he made me feel so much more comfortable after talking with him.  And, I took a list of questions - everything from what meds I can take for joint pain after surgery, to what type of BM's to expect.   Good Luck, and keep doing research and asking questions - it helps with the decision making process.

I was very nervous before I met with the surgeon for the first time too.  I was amazingly surprized how comfortable and warm my visit was with the surgeon for the first time.  Just visiting with my surgeon for a few minutes helped me put my mind at ease about many of the questions and emotions I was feeling.  Also, if you don't like your surgeon, these days you don't have to stick with the same one.  One thing I have learned is that although the surgeries may have the same names, different doctors take different approaches to pre-op care and because they are people, they all have their own unique personalities.  In the end, I found my fear of going to meet the surgeon was one of my biggest obstacles.  Now that several weeks have gone by, I'm scheduled for Tuesday for RNY. --Dave
