Surgery in 6 days. Is this forum still about Weight Loss?

It's six days before my surgery, and I'm not sure what this forum is about.   Thanks to everyone for the private messages and answering so many questions for me.   I'm not apologizing for expressing my opinion about the Brokeback post, and I am giving this forum another chance at the advice of someone who has given me some great info about my upcoming surgery and what to expect afterwards (you know who you are).   Please don't respond to this if you just want to call me names again - I am genuinely looking for advice on what to expect and prepare for on my surgery day, 3/14.

This forum is certainly still about weight loss.  This is the most open and supportive locker room full of friends that you will ever find.  Every once in awhile someone sneaks in and gets out of line, they will get put back in place pretty quickly and the locker room will calm back down.  Please don't let them discourage you.  This is one of the best places I have visited and I am proud to consider many of these guys my friends.  I remember the nervousness, apprehension, and questions that I had just before my surgery.  These guys were a great source of comfort and information.  Please feel free to ask any questions that you have and welcome brother.

Thanks for the responses.  I'm a compulsive list-maker and have my house pretty well stocked.  I'll pick up some more popsicles this weekend to have on hand.   And, I have my list of things to take to the hospital, and I think I'm ready  - just the usual nerves I guess.   Good advice on the morphine too :-)   I had all my pre-op tests at the hospital today, and go in for the final "class" tomorrow afternoon.   I'm still not sure about taking the CPAP to the hospital (on my list of questions for tomorrow), and I got my lovely bottle of laxative to drink Tues night.  I am super excited but nervous (like most people are at this stage).

Take a deep seat and a firm hold.. you are in for one hell of  a ride. The week prior to my surgey I found a local hypnotist... I had a single session which was taped and I lstened to it before bed. This was very new for me... I had never tried this before and I recomend it... I was able to get my appointment the same day I called them.. you might want to try it. I also attempted positive self talk.. reassuring myself that my doctors were as good as it gets... that I was in the right place and it was all ment to be.... I also kept looking at before and after pictures of the men on this web site... I saved the ones I related to the most ( sinilar to my starting height and weight).. this really helped keep me optomistic...I saved profiles of men I related to and re-read tham often... I prayed alot.. I was afraid.. but I felt that it was pretty normal.. hell it was major surgery... Keep the faith... it will be one of the best things you have ever done Kev-

I remember being nervous as all get out and having to constantly remind myself that I had chosen a really competent surgeon, who knew what he was doing and it was time for me to just take a little nap and let him and his team do their work!  After? Hmm, well, don't be afraid to use that button for the pain meds!  I made sure I used it and I really didn't experience a lot of pain other than having to deal with the gas - and we've all been there and got through it - you will too.  Don't forget a robe! Will be looking forward to you getting back here and joining the losers! Steve

Sorry you had such a bad experience with previous posts.  This forum is about weight loss and the issues surrounding weight loss.  Just choose the topics that are of interest to you.  There is a reason this is called the locker room.  Just like in sports, the purpose is the game of Weightloss, but there will be other life issues, humor, successes, encouragement, etc.  that will come in.  Just pick your topics.  You can be assured that when you ask honest questions on this forum you will get a lot of great answers. Good luck with your impending surgery.  Greg

TM It sounds like you have pretty much everything covered.  I can not really say I was nervous, but more excited that I was really ready to get rid of a bunch of the 450 plus pounds I had been carrying around.  I guess I was at that point where I knew I would die before long, so I felt this was a chance to live longer.  I took several t-shirts and shorts along with walking shoes and socks.  I hate those gowns they give you where you walk down the hall having to hold it shut in the back or have everyone seeing your ass.   I sure wish you the very best next week.  Throw out any direct questions you may have and someone here will have some advice.   I think one thing to remember is that we all have had different experiences depending on the hospital and our surgeons.   I will add that I do not think that I would have made it thru as easy as I did without the information I got from this board.
