Gay connotation to wls?
Joe,
Thanks man. You know you hear all these comments about how this room is for guys, and we can let our hair down, and be honest, and be tuff skinned.
Then you ask a question, and it rubs SOMEONE the wrong way, and then the "ruff and tuff guys room" becomes catty.
Thanks Man. I truly didnt mean to offend anyone.

It's funny that you ask that question,
It never occured to me, and I don't think it has to my wife either, nor has anybody I talked with about my upcoming operation hinted to that.
I feel sorry for you having that type of rednecks surrounding you and making you question yourself on the perception of others. It takes narrow minded people to stop and question the sexual preferences of anybody showing a willingness to take action in order to better their health.
The question I would ask those that tell you they think it's a gay thing is "why?"and also "When was the last time you saw a > 350 lbs 65year old heterosexual OR gay?"
I believe that the perception you got is not generalized, and if it is.., I thank God for my group of friends.
Regards,
Marcel
Steve,
We have chatted before and I think you have some great ideas about WLS. I have never heard it was a 'gay' thing.
Being gay myself that is only a small part of who I am. I live in a very liberal area (Washington DC) and to everyone from my co-workers to CEO could care less. I wish more people could be that way.
My decision to have surgery was 110% concerns with my health--- it was NEVER a vanity surgery!
I know many straight and gay obese men who would never consider surgery. That is their choice. I actually feel sorry for them!
I knew I could not lose the weight on my own. I am THRILLED with my decision!
Since losing 40+ lbs I have been hit on by more women (if that says anything). haha

PK, I have never heard this before. I think Double Dee hit the nail here. It may be geographic. I am in L.A. and we don't see gay the same way as bubba(s) in NC, of course that my perception.
If you are hearing this from people that matter to you maybe some education is in order. like other have said 88% of WLS sugery is done on females, most men who have had it don't sit around and talk about with other guys, for the most part. Even on here alot of men are "afraid" to discuss it with friends and family.

Hey Steve....
what an intresting question....Let me start, I've been on the board for about 2 years now...i've been very out....I use the litte fairy sign when referring to myself, (don't know how to do it now that they changed the format)
But this is the first time of me hearing that this surgery is effiminent....and I'm out in the gay community, and get around in the WLS community...
Now I was born in NC, and I have some relatives in foothills that thinkbuy meat that you didn;t shoot is gay
I think you have had three gays respond to your question, and a couple have written to me just to say ..hey I'm here too....but the vast majority of the guy that post here I would say are straight
but this board is pretty asexual...the only thing we think about is fat, flab, hunger, balls dipping in the toilet
If there was a lot of gay guys on this board, I guarentee there would be a lot more drama...this is a drama free zone....snotty giggle at my own people....
I hope I answered your question
