Hello Everyone!

I posted on OH last August when I first was told by my doctors I should have WLS. I found out that my employer had a written exclusion for any obesity treatment. I was mortified and started writing letters and making phone calls to corporate, my state senators and congressmen, also federal government.  Every response pretty much told me “Sorry about your bad luck” there is not much we can do, please contact someone else.

I got a call from my HR guy and he told me that the state of Maryland recently changed there laws and now require companies to supply their employees with insurance that allows WLS. This is the state my companies Corporate office resides.

I called Aetna ; sure enough the exclusion is gone and I am allowed to get the Roux-en-Y Gastric bypass. Of course I need the 5 years medical history (Got that), need the 6 month supervised diet with a doctor and a dietitian and a physiological evaluation. (I’m going to get this done at the end of the month. Spring break is here and I have committed to take the kid’s on vacation). I have decided to use Dr. Patel here in San Antonio through Innova Hospital .

I have been reading a lot of posts but now feel I need to also start participating. I am like all newbie’s to WLS I am excited but scared also. I look forward to exchanging thoughts and ideas with you all in the future.

Thanks,

Hans

Hey, welcome aboard.  I would say you are making a good choice.  I am very glad I did this even though I get a bit frustrated or depressed a bit every once in a while.  The guys on this board always get me right back int the game with their experiences, successes, and an occasional elbow to the ribs.  Its a great place to hang out.  Read some of the guys profiles too.  They have great stuff about before surgery and the recovery afterwards.  I found that stuff really motivating to stay on course. Post anytime, about just about anything.  If it is a concern to you, it probably has been to someone out here too.  It is sure to bring a response. Joe

Hey Hans, Welcome to the Locker Room!  This place is better than any other support I have in place. ANY issue you have, we've had/have it too. Let us know if you have any questions that need to be answered. The guys in this locker room sure helped me before surgery, right after, up until the present. I now try to spend as much time helping others that are just getting started.  You've jumped the biggest hurdle, getting approved. Now just follow the instructions from the doctor and you're all set to have the surgery. I look forward to future posts. It feels great to get your life back. Ronnie
