morning boys, well I did it.  i had my LAP band surgery this past Monday morning.  I went into the hospital at 6:30am and was discharged on Tuesday at 2pm.  the recovery part SUCKS.  where the F did all this painful gas come from?  It hurts like hell.  Do RNY guys get the gas too?  I am walking as much as I can tolerate, napping, and drinking, drinking, drinking as much clear liquid as I can take. i am sure I will start to feel better the further I get out.  RIGHT?  hope everyone is having a good thursday.  take care guys. peace...Paul

Paul, Glad to hear you’re home. Walking and Gas-X can help. So can a heating pad on your back when you’re not walking. RNY’s get the same? Oh! Gas Like Exxon!

Keep up the walking, it helps. Hang in there. IT DOES GET EASIER EACH WEEK!

Best Wishes- Dx

I had BRUTALLY painful gas pains 2 days after surgery, because when I didn't get 'em the next day, I thought I dodged that bullet. But like I said, 2 days later, I was friggin' dying. I just walked, and drank water, and walked some more. This gas pain, like all things, shall soon pass.... Good luck......

Paul, congrats on the surgery and coming home.  Yep, RNYers get plent of gas pain in the early days.  The pain goes away, but the gas continues due to the diet too.  That's why FART moments are so appropriate in the locker room here.

Hey Paul,  I had severe gas as well, so I know what you're feeling. I'm not sure if you've been told this or not...When you drink, don't gulp, or use straws, sips only. When you sip, take the liquid in your mouth without swallowing, close your lips together and seal them, then swallow. If you do it any other way, then you'll get lots of gas down with it. Hope it helps. GasX, Heating Pad, Walking all great for relieving the pressure. Ronnie

Paul,

Your gas will pass.  Walking seems to help things a bit.

Hey Paul - Great to hear you are home and all is reasonably well.  That gas is the worst - walk, and walk, and walk... or at least that was the only thing that worked for me.  You're going to feel better real soon!! Steve

Paul, Welcome to the loser’s bench. Now the rubber hits the road, but it sounds like you already know what you have to do.  Just take one day at a time (every day gets better) and follow your doctor’s orders.  You’ll be feeling like your old self in a few more days.  In a few weeks you’ll be feeling better than you can imagine. Keep us posted on your progress and don’t be bashful about declaring your first FART.

May Your Lantern Burn Bright,
Paul
