Abdominal Spasms????

Hi all - I'm about 8 days in my pre-op high protein/low cal (1000 per day) diet, and the last 3 days I've had abdominal spasms.   I only experienced one per day, but it was a sharp stabbing pain (stomach area not intestinal, but different place each time).   I've only had one per day the past 3 days, but the pain is intense and i can feel the muscles spazzing.  It's extremely sharp for about 5-10 seconds, then just a dull pain for about an hour or two after.   The pain has been so intense each time that it leaves me light headed and seeing stars.   I think it's just my body screaming out for pizza and onion rings (adjusting to new diet) and not overly worried.  I have my Upper GI series next week, so if anything is serious, I'm sure they'll see it there.  I'm just curious if anyone has experienced this.  Thanks, Chuck

Hey Chuck, The upper GI tests should find the problem. Possibly just ‘hunger pangs?’ Jumping straight to "shakes only" Can leave you with quite a hollow feeling. The symptoms sound "ulcery" though… Any Gastric-Reflux in your past? That’s obviously more of a ‘burning sensation’ but can cause Stabbing pains as well. Give the doc’s office a call for suggestions. Bariatric Docs are pretty good about getting back to patients with "phone info…" Particularly while on their protocols…. Hope you get the fix for it soon! Best Wishes- Dx

Thanks for the feedback Dx - these are not ulcer pains for sure.   I can feel the abdominal muscles contracting when it happens, and it feels like a sore muscle after it stops.   I've been treated for Reflux (GERD) for years, and have it under control - this has happened 3 times, in completely different areas.    I'm not looking for a diagnosis on here, and I'm not even worried enough to call my doc - I was just curious if anyone experienced this after changing their diet in the begninning. Thanks again for the feedback, Chuck
