Dave I'm 5' 6" and weigh 230.  Perhaps I could get as low as 160 which would be 70 lbs.  I haven't had WLS yet, but do plan on getting it.  Do you question my decision?  I'd like to hear your thoughts. Sonny

Hi Sonny,

Different Dave, here. The only thing I was thinking about your getting RNY is that most people lose 80-100 lbs. no matter what. 80 will be underweight and more than 80 possibly life-threatening. You'll probably want to ask your doc how to prevent that. Also, slightest little complication and most people pick up rapid weight loss again.

Best Wishes,

Dave

Hey Dave I see your point.  I suppose I could let things continue the way they have the last 6 or 7 years and soon enough I'll be at a place where I could handle a 100 pound weight loss.  Wouldn't that be somewhat self destructive though?  I will pose these questions when I have my consultation.  Thanks. Sonny

Sonny,

I agree, better thin than obese. Was there any reason for switching from band to RNY? It looks like with the band, you can stop just about anywhere you want. Just wondering what your doc says about the band vs. RNY for you?

Thanks,

Dave

I am a very open person. I have told everyone whos inquires about my loss. I also have my website, so everyone knows  There was some method to my wadness I suppose for a couple of reasons. I know there are those who don't like to feel like people are watching everything they eat, but for me, it help me stay accountable. Because people knew I was banded, whenever I would get tempted at work, It would help me pass it up.  I also told people to help them if they were interested in knowing. I know several people who have been helped by WLS because I was open with then when they inquired about it. Just my 2 cents.

I was completely the opposite. I told anyone who would listen about my surgery. My wife had her bypass four years ago and going through that with her and being around others who had gone through the surgery made me so excited about it that I wanted the world to know. Family and friends have been extremely supportive, especially since they've seen me struggle with diet after diet for years. I did have one skinny person say "Well, I'd never have weight loss surgery." My response was simply "If I were you, I wouldn't have weight loss surgery either."
