Wow that was a tough read.   I agree that it can be tough to talk about some of these issues and these guys make it feel like home and make it easy.  By home, I mean lots of yelling and an occational beating. Take care Scott

ds, Glad you found this bunch! They’re just as likely to throw an arm around your shoulder As pop ya in the back of the head and say- “Quit F’n Up!” (both usually, which makes each action more meaningful.  Yes?) We’ve got several Fishermen here, -about once a month Photos posted of Big catches. Sorry you’re feeling a little freaked-out/down right now. IT DOES GET EASIER! Don’t ‘rule-out’  POST-OP Depression. The anesthesia does a number on Brain Chemistry.  Some people are a month out before their Dopamine and Serotonin levels balance back out.  Add to that-  Mourning the loss of food, adjusting to new life style, Pressure to succeed, Loss of comforting and coping mechanisms, etc... And for us Guys- Add in The Testosterone Roller Coaster that can result, and you’ve got a big ole case for The Blues. (as the excess fat burns up, A Lot of excess testosterone stored in the fat is released, and, as fat content in diet drops severely, testosterone production drops.  Put the two together and most guys are having testosterone extreme highs and lows back to back.  Can make you “Moody” as all Hell!) My doc regularly just put all of his Patients on 6 weeks of Effexor whether they show signs of Depression or not.  It’s just pre-emptive.  Do give yourself a check---Like one or both of these--- http://www.depression-screening.org/screeningtest/screeningtest.htm or- http://depression.about.com/library/quizzes/depquiz/blwakefieldquiz.htm

If it suggests a problem, Call the Doc, share with them the numbers from the test score Explain “how you feel,” And he’ll hook you up with something to re-set your brain chemistry levels. May not even have to get involved with a ‘Shrink,’ -- the Bariatric Doc can and may prescribe. Don’t resist because of Psyche-Doctor Stigma.  If you had pain in your knee, you wouldn’t think twice about taking something for it. So, pain in your Psyche? Same thing.  Just call the Doc. Get ‘er Done! ”Pain is Inevitable, Suffering is an Option.”  No extra Points for just suffering. If you’re feeling “Blue” on top of the aches and pains from the surgery?  -Be pro-active and get this fixed. You will be amazed at how much better the world is. Other “non-Med” things that will help? More Sunlight (release of hormones that help better, more restful/productive sleep) More Exercise, (elevates the mood through naturally adjusting neurotransmitters) More Laughter, (see funny movies and comedians, Laughter IS great for the psyche ) More Sex! (just a good thing always, like Laughter and Exercise in the Sun -- times 10) Life is Meant to be LIVED! Not Endured! Hope You’re Up and Hitting the Water soon! Best Wishes- Dx

Dx, Great post! Can you tell me what Winston Churchill, John Cleese, Terry Bradshaw, Mike Wallace, Ted Turner, Buzz Aldrin and me have in common? JP

DS: Rock-on !!!! I caught soo many fish my first year.. ( I'll dig up the pic's) When DX explained depression I thought he had been peeking behind my curtins.. than I got depressed about my depression..than I laughed at myself for getting depressed about my depression.. than I realized that if I could actually laugh at myself... my depression was MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER... so now I am no longer depressed about having depression.. I love this forum.. and DX.. as always.. thanks Kev-
