Hi Guys I have been lurking for about 2 weeks and wanted to introduce myself.  I have been on OH for several months now, but I just found out about this board, it is so great to hear from guys rather than all the drama on other boards.  I found out about this board at a support group in Charlotte from DrJco - Thanks DrJco. Sunday was my 4 month anniversary (RNY on 10/25/06) and I have lost a total of 99 lbs.  WOW!  I was hoping to loose 100 lbs by 6 months, so this exceeds my expectations. I had my wife take pictures of me and I can't believe it.  I just bought clothes in the regular men's dept for the 1st time since middle school. Keep all the great topics coming, they are great. Chris

Hello Chris!

We know the good fellow, DrJco. Please say hello to him. Welcome aboard. This is a great bunch of guys here. We support one another, sort of keep one another in line (although a certain level of raunchiness is accepted) and answer one another's questions.

Looks like you've undergone a heck of a loss already. Congrats!

I've been trying to get a handle on how difficult it is to get insurance approval for RNY's nowadays (not for me, I'm done, but for others who are applying). It looks like the guys at around 60 BMI are getting approved pretty easily. Just wondering, at what BMI did you start and how difficult was your insurance approval?

Welcome Aboard,

Dave

Dave Thanks for the encouragment.  My starting BMI was 52.6 with 1 co-morbid sleep apnea  I was approved on the first try after getting my ins co to waive the 6 month supervised diet. All the best! Chris

I was just approved at a BMI of 45. I did have 2 co-morbidities, Hypertension (treated with 2 medications) and diabetes, requiring injections. This was the minimum standard for my insurance provider. (Priority health, Michigan). I was told that with no co-morbidities, a BMI of 50 and 5 years of supervised, documented dieting is required for approval. Welcome aboard Chris. Didn't mean to "Hijack" your thread. DD

Awesome Chris, you are about 2 weeks ahead of me.  Thanks...you give me something to shoot for.  I was at 91lbs at 3.5 months so I've got some catching up to do.   Welcome to the locker room.  It stinks a little but we love it here. Welcome. Greg

Chris, You are doing so well, keep up the god work.  Welcome to the men's forum.  The guys here are great and informative.  I have three weeks to go till my last visit with the crew for my six months diet and exercise regiment.  I am down over 15lbs and can't wait to have the surgery.
