For the last several days I have been having alot of pain in my left calf. It feels like a pulled muscle but it is not getting any better, and now it is hurting on the bottom of my heel. When I first get up in the morning or if I sit for awhile and try to stand it hurts so bad I can hardley walk for a few steps, then it lets up a little. Anybody have any ideas what it could be?   Thanks

Hey there.  Have you been exercising a lot since your surgery.  I don't know specifics but it could simply be from overuse.   I had some knee pain creep up over the fall and it was that simple.  I had a few physical therapy sessions and it was done.  Now I try to keep flexible by stretching every day.  Hope it gets better.   Scott

Alan, Do you have varicose veins?  I have them, primarily in my left leg.  I’ll sometimes wake up in the middle of the night with a pain on the backside of my calf.  It goes away if I get up and walk on it to get the circulation going again.  If you think it could be varicose veins, have your doctor look at it.

I had the pain in the bottom of the heel twicce when trying to run while obese.  Once was simply overuse. The second time was supposedly a burse on the bottom of the heel bone. Might want to switch to water exercise or cycling (if that doesn't hurt) for a couple of weeks. I didn't have a chance to check your weight, but running while still overweight can be a gamble.

If you are walking a lot, you may also need to make sure your shoesoles are sufficiently cushioned, as well.

Best Regards,

Dave

The heel pain might be plantar fascitis.  I had that off and on and it can be very painful.  Ice seems to relieve the imflamation.  If it is very bad, you will need to go to a podiatrist to get a shot.    The pain is the worst in the morning.  And, it will not go away until it is treated. Good luck.

Sorry for the hijack!

Jim, that fish I recommended is called "Shimesaba". Don't say Makerel, because it sounds like the Japanese word for tuna, "Maguro".

Dave, Thanks for the heads up.  I will remember that.  Right now I am in Singapore.  I passed throught the airport in Tokyo yesterday and will now make my way back up to NE Asia over the next couple of weeks. Jim

Hi Jim,

Looks like you're doing the expensive restaurant food tour. Singapore should have some deals on good food, though. Maybe Chinese roast pork. I find that any of the steamed biscuits or dumplings fill me up really fast. You might find some pretty good soups, though.

Japanese food is popular in all Asian countries, so you might be able to find it at roughly Tokyo prices.

Singapore probably has some good Indian food just skip the rice and nan.

Good Luck,

Dave

Al, all of the suggestions/ideas here seem good…. 3 months out?  Eating mostly extra Protein? Little else? For some that can cause a flair-up of Gout. Getting your B-12? Un-explained pain in a foot/leg –arm/hand could be Neuropathy. )both of these are way off from left field, but ones that happen associated with WLS/mal-absorption) The other suggestions are far more likely But I wanted to give you something to worry about!laugh.gif Best Wishes- Dx
