Hi  Anyone find they can enjoy and cope, slowly, with the occasional light beer? Thanks Rick

Hi Rick,

Welcome to the men's board.

The safest thing to do is to wait 7 months, but I have seen people drink small quanities at 3 months out. There is some debate about carbonation and RNY people - many feel it stretches but I see you are VSG, and I'm not sure about carbonation and the VSG.

I've spent about two months total in sunny Sydney. The people were great, but I didn't see many who didn't drink beer.

Hope to see you around a lot

Rick Welcome to the Men's Board.  Glad to see we have a member from down under here with us.   I know a lot of guys do have the occassional beer now and then, but as David said you need to check with your doctor as to when you can try it.   I had surgery 15 months ago and have not tried having having a beer.  I do here that one effects you like 3 or 4 would. I see you just had your surgery on Feb 22nd.  Let us know how you are doing with the weight loss.  Anytime you have any questions just throw them out here and someone will give you an answer. Best Wishes Mate  Dan

Hi Dan Surgery was actually Jan 18.   My Dr said the occasional glass of alcohol was fine.  I also know a GP [family Dr] who has had this surgery and she has a single wine daily. I tried a beer but the carbonation was such that I only drank a quarter of it. Life without beer? Rick

How you going Rick I am 4 month out and was told no alcohol for 6 months.  I also lived in Milson's Point across the harbour from Sydney for about 6 months in 2005.   I miss beer and Australia.  I can't wait to get back to both of them.   Ciao

Hi Rick, Welcome to the Men's Board.  My doctor has restricted any carbonated drinks and recommended no alcohol for at least 6 months. I'm looking forward to having a glass of wine again.

Wait until you can handle it and then like everythign else, moderation is the key.  I had a few nights while camping this summer where I could only drink 7 or 8.  :)

Hmm Most of you guys say similar things and I see most of you have had a rny. I had a vsg and was not told to wait so long. Significant? Rick
