Wednesday's the day!

Getting ready to take the deep breath and dive off the 20-foot board! My RNY is Wednesday, and I'm nervous/psyched/edgy/can't wait -- all the emotions you can think of, except one.  I am not at all afraid.  I told my wife that if I die on the table, which we both know is highly unlikely, that at least I will have died doing what was right. Faith takes many forms, and we each find our own path, that's how we're made. Going into this, I have faith that having the surgery is the correct next step along my own path.  I look forward to joining the loser's bench, and can't wait until the time when my ass is so bony it hurts to sit there. Thanks for all the support you've given to this point (even when I was lurking and you didn't know you were giving it). Today's my last unrestricted day; gotta do the clear liquids and go through the, ahem, cleanout tomorrow.  I bet my 15-year-old son $5 that I'd be five pounds lighter at 9pm than at 7am.  Smart move? Today: 316. Goal 160. Cowabunga! Jeff Honeyman

Jeff, It's only been 10 months since I was in your same position.  I had never had any surgery and didn't know what to expect.  That made me nervous in itself, but I knew I was doing the right thing.  My wife had her WLS 11 days before me and our lives have changed so much for the better.  Look forward to seeing you back skinnier and healthier.  Good luck on Wednesday.  We'll be thinking of you. Jeff -=- Good Luck on your new journey. I'm 13 weeks out and haven't looked back yet!  Don't plan to look back and don't plan to go back! Your faith will be your guide. And yes you become gludious minus rather quickly.  My butt was the first to go and yes it hurts to sit on it. Enjoy the clears and start moving! From CAL Kim L. Jeff, Good luck with your surgery.  It is normal to be nervous.  But everything will be fine.  I had my surgery done 7 weeks ago and I'm feeling better than I have in years.

Jeff,
You are definitely making the right choice my friend. The term I used to describe all the emotions leading up to surgery day is ROLLERCOASTER!! We, as human beings have an overwhelming tendency to psych ourselves out over stuff and by the time it's all over, said, and done with, it was really no biggie at all. Seems like a pretty solid bet to me, but you may be surprised though. I'll get the guys to get your locker ready over here on the Loser's Bench in the meantime. Best of luck to you and we'll see ya on the losing side.

Jeff, You will do great!  I have a saying I used pre-op about losing weight..."My will and the Dr''s skill."  It still holds true.  It is all about the power of the tool (Dr's skill), and the power of choice (my willingness to make the necessary lifestyle changes) in order to have success. So far so good.  I still have a ways to go, but life, ALL OF LIFE, is already so much better. Good luck on Wednesday.  God speed to you. Bob

Hi Jeff,

That 5 lbs? No problem...Good luck in surgery. If you can keep of the simple carbs, flour and stuff and exercise, I believe you can choose your bodyweight.

160? No problem. I started at 280 and I'm finding if I exercise 30 minutes every day and don't eat much sugar flour or other simple carbs, the weight comes off. You may have a plateau or two along the way, but in the long run the choice will be yours.

Looking forward to having you back here and that "Why does my a$$ hurt?" post that everyone does a few months out.

I was completely stressed the day before, and the day of, my surgery. I kept stressing whether it was a huge mistake I was making. Then I was thinking, what's more important to me, being able to eat a chicken parm hero, or my kids? Eating Ben & Jerry's whenever I wanted, or time with my wife? Being able to drink 10-11 beers, and a ton of Buffalo wings with the guys during football season, or being able to buy the clothes I want, and being comfortable in my own skin? You're doing the right thing, man, don't cave now. I hate pain, needles, the whole works, but it wasn't as bad as I made it out to be in my head, and now I'm 3 weeks out, and I'm down about 25 lbs.. The change in diet is something to get used to, but I can deal with it, if one day, when I'm in the shower, and look down, I'll see more than just my gut, if you catch my drift. Good luck, and don't sweat it.....
