Chris, I had to look bradycardia to see what it is.  It sounds like it is somewhat common in athletes.  You probably have a slower heart rate because you are so healthy; at least let’s hope so.   Good luck to you and let us know what the doc says on Monday.

Dude,
I had this exact discussion with my primary doc a few months ago.
My resting heart rate in the middle of the day is usually around 50-55 beats p/minute.
The Doc was not concerned in the least, thanks to my high level of activity.
(They even classify me in the "athlete" category when taking these types of things into consideration.)

I've seen you in person... and, I know how committed you are to fitness. There's no doubt that you are an "athlete". Hopefully that's all there is to it.
Of course, I don't know if you exhibit any other symptoms. But, my guess (for whatever it's worth) is that it's all good.

Can't hurt to check it out, though.
Be Well,
A.J.

I suspect its the doc.. he's older and my guess is, just trying to be safe.  Still, at 39 it is a little unnerving to be sent to a cardiologist.

Christopher, I’m with the other guys, Lower resting heart rate could be just a result of your Serious new Health. Test will show though…. Here’s to Great News! (Hey, Brightside, it’s a test you don’t have to study for) Best Wishes- Dx

Hmm...doesn't sound like anything that can't be managed. I've heard of one other person with that and she was in her 60's and had a low resting heart rate. Hers was accompanied by some sort of benign arrythmia.

Mine is regularly below 60, according to the BP tester, so it could be in the 30's 40's when I'm sleeping.

The doc probably just wants to check and see if your heart is "covering all of the bases". They'll probably test you at different levels of exertion, and find that it's just a "sitting around thing" and doesn't reflect what happens when you're up and moving around.

Here's a Wiki article if you haven't seen one already:

I was just reading and it looks like they'll test your blood gases, probably put that oximeter on your finger and test you at different levels of exertion.

Ditto to all of the above! As far as being 39 and seeing a cardioliogist.....consider the alternatives.  You could NOT meet the cordiologist and go meet the mortician instead. For the most part, those doctor types are usually pretty good about making recommendations about seeing a specialist.  Go meet with him, hear him out, if you don't agree you can always get a second opinion. As a medical professional with a significant amount of education regarding cardiac issues, I feel very confident that your findings will likely be benign.  Keep us posted and we'll keep you lifted up to the Big Guy!!

Christopher, Any other red flags other than the low heart rate? Like AJ my resting heart rate averages 52 BPM.  PCP and Surgeon have not stated any concerns whatsoever during recent check-ups.  Prior to WLS mine was always in the high 70's. Keep us posted!!
