Still waiting to complete the process. Being me I need to have a fall back plan if plan A fails. Is it crazy to get a 2nd on the house and self pay  if denied initially? Really can't afford to do it BUT cal I really afford not to?

Dan, Many, Many, Many folks have had their surgery covered and approved On 2nd Appeal after first being turned down and even having a 1st Appeal turned down. In order of approach, Go for the first approval. If Flat Out denied? Go through the appeal process. If Appeal - Flat Out denied? Go through the appeal process again. Then, if still a "No Go," worry about self-pay. There are several Med-Financing options available even if you can’t put up the house. This waiting is the most frustrating thing in the world. Hang in there. Do keep exploring options, But don’t "give in" too easy either. Several more weeks of frustration buys a lot of house payment later down the line. Yes? Best Wishes- Dx

Dx is right, sometimes you have to be very persistent about getting approval. if not, a lot of guys here have paid out of pocket and i think you'll find the docs really slash their prices for you when that's the route. so that might be plan B. also, i think Mexico and some other countries are cheaper in the long run too.....Carbonblob

Hi Dan, i would keep pressing the insurance.  If you have to go self-pay, look at other financing options rather than home equity.  Here's the reason.  If something goes terribly wrong not only would your family lose you if there are complictions but you put the house in jepoardy at the same time.  Better to seek alternative financing, then when you come through with flying colors you can use the home equity to pay off this loan.  That way you would have protected the house.   But I don't think that will be necessary.  Just keep pushing the insurance company.  Part of their process is them trying to see how committed you are. Hope this helps. Greg

My problem is once I decide to do something I want it done now !!  I will push the INS Co and my PCP But I need a back up plan.  The surgery loan seems to be better deal than than a HELOC.4.9 % fixed. its a better rate w/o the other sosts involved, alla round a better way to go. Thanx for input guys.
