As you have already been told the tests and studies may not be required for Insurance approval, however your surgeon may require them before he will set your date. That was the way it worked at my surgeons office. I had to meet my Ins. requirments but regardless of the Ins I had to meet with a Nut., have a Psyc. evaluation and he required that I have stress test, gall bladder ultra sound, blood tests and  sleep study. Seemed like I had to do every test under the sun. I was told by my PCP that is why my surgeon has such a good record with WLS.  pan head

Hey, Thanks for the advice and encouragement everybody. I didn't hear anything from the surgeons office yet.  I'm hoping I'll have a date soon. I'll post it when I do. DD

The sleep study is not something the insurance company NECESSARILY needs to consider for approval - if sleep apnea is your ONLY co-morbidity, they might need it, but if you have other issues, they won't. (I didn't even have one, and I was approved.) Most of the other testing you need is for surgical CLEARANCE, not APPROVAL. That is, it's to make sure you can withstand the stresses of surgery, and allows your surgeon and anesthesiologist to make adjustments to compensate for any problems you might have. The surgeon requires these, but the insurance company does not. Meeting with the nutritionist is also required by the surgeon, not the insurer. You still have to finish your testing, but if all the specialists sign off, you're good to go. Your surgeon won't book you a surgical date until all your tests are done (though they might go ahead and get you a date several weeks in the future, anticipating no problems, then reschedule if you're not cleared).
