1) Anyone else have stiffness in there hips? Especially after sitting for a while. Im down about 60 pounds since RNY on November 13. 2006. I wonder if it's my body adjusting to the weight loss. 2) It seems like I need about an hour and a half less sleep than before. I know that losing weight gives you more energy but, less sleep needed is also a plus. Anyone else have these things going on? Usually I just lurk. Decided to ask a few questions. Moore

Good mornng T - No I haven't experienced any stiffness.  If anything, I notice my knees ache a little if I don't walk for 30 minutes every day. I have noticed I am sleeping a little less.  I used to be able to sleep until 9-9:30 a.m. on a Saturday.  Now I'm usually awake around 7 a.m. and am ready to get up.  A little added bonus I guess, to have more of the day to enjoy now that we're feeling better! Hope you have a great day! Matt

Hey T, Stiffness in hips? Boney-azz aches and pains are pretty common. Many have "Hurting tail-bone" that can really be a literal "Pain in the Azz" while losing, But the good news is that it goes away after being at a stable weight for about 3 months. Extra energy? Yep. Sleep? Some do, some not… Some good, some worse, depending on how they were before. Many find it more difficult to "get to sleep" and have a little insomnia while they are losing fast. Others, start sleeping well with out waking through the night, for the first time in years,

And that causes them to need a little less and wake up with more energy to start the day. If it’s "I feel Better" Sleeping change, Then it’s likely to be "Extra Energy" or "Better Quality Sleep." If it’s "I can’t Sleep, and feel tired from not getting enough," then it maybe a touch of Post-Op depression. Congratulations on your Loss! Keep it Up! Best Wishes- Dx

Yep, had both of them for awhile.  The hips are related to the time sitting and laynig down.  I started swimming and that helped the WLS and the hips.  I don't have that pain anymore. On the sleep.  I am on steroids for my foot so I don't know how much of the sleep is that, but I've been averaging only 5 hours a nigh for the last two weeks.  I asume part of that is the steroids but I also know I don't wake up as much and thus are just as rested as before because my sleep apnea has improved.  What I mean by that is the mask fits better, fewer wakeups, deeper sleep, more REM, thus more efficient sleep.   I should be off the steroids within the week so I'll see where that goes.  I actually had 7 hours today which is like a record for the last couple of weeks.

Here. You could try this a few times a day.  There are more complex stretches but I do this one and it helps. http://www.exrx.net/Stretches/HipAbductors/StandingIbiotibia l.html As far as needing less sleep, it is awesome huh.  I can work a 16 hour shift 3 days in a row and survive on the 5 hours I get in the middle.   Take care Scott

Hey Tim,   60 pounds in three months… you’re doing great.  Congratulations!   I haven’t experienced stiff joints of any significance since surgery but I sure the heck did before.  As for sleeping less, I don’t sleep any less; but I don’t sleep any more either.  I have noticed that I sleep much better now.  Typically I go to bed around 9 PM and fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.  I have to make one trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night whereas it used to be 2 or 3 trips per night.  Before surgery I had to drag my a$$ out of bed in the morning.  Lately I have been waking up around 5 AM bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready for a new day.    On weekends when I can sleep in if I want, I’m not able to.  I have too many things I want to get done.

May Your Lantern Burn Bright,
Paul
