Edamame (Soy Beans)

Another snack idea for you gents. Came across this when we went to a sushi place with a buddy who ordered it as an appetizer. Edamame  is soy beans.  At sushi places they serve them still in the pod (kinda look like snap peas.)  They are steamed or boiled in sal****er, drained and then sprinkled with a little kosher salt.  Let me tell you, they are addictive.  Really good tasting and good protein and fiber value. We found some frozen at a oriental food market, but I think that larger chains and health food stores are now starting to carry them.  You can also order them off the internet on Amazon. Just boil in sal****er for 6 minutes or so, drain and lightly salt.  Give them a shot. You can thank me later. Nutritional values at following link: http://www.edamame.com/ Scott M

Scott,   Edamame?  I didn’t know that is what they are called but you are right, they are very tasty.   My Indonesian sister-in-law was visiting us last September and picked a grocery bag of the neighbor’s green, but almost mature, soybeans.  She said they had them when she was growing up but didn’t realize that we have them in the US too (she’s a city girl).  She boiled the pods for a few minutes in sal****er and served them as a snack.  I was skeptical as I’m not a big fan of the soybean flavor but I was pleasantly surprised.  They were very good.

I know what you mean.  When they brought them to the table the first time, I thought that there was no way that I was gonna like them.  But I'm telling you, I'm hooked on the darn things.  Had some for lunch today. Man are my buddies gonna give me grief the next time I show up to watch a big game on the tube, and I pull a bag of soy beans out instead of the chips I used to munch on. I found out that our local Walmart Superstore carries them in the frozen foods. Scott M.

Yeah Scott -
Edamame Rocks!
It's been a staple in my home for the last few years.

I eat 'em as a little side dish with my fish, poultry or beef.
(Gettin' in some veggie action AND soy protein!)

When my daughter gets in one of those "picky eater" phases... for dinner we'll just cook some up, take 'em out of the pods for her, and she scarfs 'em down by the handful.... Voracious.
Kinda like I used to be with Chicken Wings!

Mmmmmm.... chicken wings.

Be Well,
A.J.

Scott, I also found out about these at a Sushi restaurant. I've been able to find these at the supermarket in the frozen vergatable section. I've seen these at King Kullen and Super Stop and Shop. They can also be found at Trader Joe's. They have them in the pods or already out. Either way you're right they are addictive and you can eat them like candy. Hard to believe that they are vegatables and good for you.  Enjoy Dan

*grunt* Soy bad.  *grunt* Ok, just a warning here. Soy protein increases estrogen. Really.  It does.  *grunt* Back to my cave.

Chris.... If loving soybeans is wrong....I don't wanna be right. Plus that estrogen stuff is a bunch of crap.  Oops, gotta run!  Oprah's on! Scott M
