Hernia + Hernia + Gallbladder = Surgery

Awww crap!  Looks as if I've got not one but two internal hernias.  And finally the ol' gallbladder has surrendered as well.  I've had some emergency room visits due to some major abdominal pains only for them to subside as if they have never happened 2-3 hours later.  The doctors here, who have little to no bariatric plumbing knowledge or experience keep insisting that I'm simply backed up and need some Milk of Magnesia and some more fiber in my diet.  I THINK NOT!!   Went to see my surgeon and described what was going on and he immediately said I was having the classic symptoms of internal hernias.  From the looks of it and where the pain was it's likely that I've got two hernias - one by the new stomach and one lower by the new connection.  Lower ones are common, uppers not so common, but both can be taken care of easily.  Plus, the gallbladder is giving me constant pain, usually dull but sometimes rather severe.   Not a big deal, and will be good to get this taken care of.  Will use the same three lap holes for the hernias after he removed the gallbladder.  In and out same day if all goes as planned.  Getting my pre-op tests done this week and hope to schedule surgery next week or week after at latest.  Will go in immediately if I have another bout of severe pain...in that case will get a shot in the butt to knock the edge off during the 3.5 hour drive to the hospital. Not unexpected at all considering the amount of weight I've lost and the extra room the plumbing has to move around in there!  Should only be out of commission with cardio a few days max and out of the weight room for a week or two maximum.  BRING IT ON!!! Keep the faith gents! CF

Sorry to hear of you difficulties Mike.   Any chance of parlaying the hernia surgery into a skin reduction (if necessary)?  Here's to a quick and uneventful recovery? Scott M

Don't think the insurance is gonna go for the skin reduction and my surgeon says that while he can do it, he prefers not to...not his specialty and feels to get the desired result that a plastic surgeon is the best way to go.  I have to agree.  My skin issues are not major, but I am pursuing ps. Good to hear from ya!  And thanks for the well wishes...not sweating this at all. CF

CF, I had a hernia after all of my loss and the surgery to repair it was almost a drive-through. I was in the hospital at 8:00am and back home by 10:30!! I was back up and going like normal (without the hernia pain) within the week. I hope yours goes as well or better!! Let us know when your headed in….. Best Wishes- Dx
