Hiya, I'm about 13 months out of my RNY and believe it or not, I've gotten hit with my first cold. My head feels like it's going to explode.  I have some Tylenol Cold liquid at home. I just wanted to see what other people use when they get hit with the bug.

I know this is going to condemn me to be sick for sure, but, so far, 5 months out, and with a wife and two kids at home in school, with numerous colds and flu having passed thrugh our family this winter, I haven't had more than a stuffy nose.  I use nose spray with extra moisturizer for that.  But with the vitamins and minerals, I guess, I have been passed by to-date from the cold bug.  Sorry I couldn't help.  I have wondred about the Night-Time/Nyquill myself after the warnings about alcohol consumption and being a cheap date after RNY surgery.  I don't drink alcohol so the affects of the liquid cold medicines concerns me some too.

How do you handle sweets?  Do you still dump?  If not, then the standard generic Nyquil is best.

Most cold medicines have the same ingredients.  Make sure that whatever you take has a decongestant, like Pseudoephedrine HCl or Phenylephrine HCl.  That is the most important.  Some expectorant like Guaifenesin along with the decongestant can be good as well. "Tylenol Sinus Congestion & Pain Severe" has those things along with some acetaminophen. http://www.tylenol.com/product_detail.jhtml?id=tylenol/sinus /prod_scps.inc&prod=subpscps#Top

Zycam and/or Coldeeze have been helpful when I’ve gotten the Bug. They shorten the length of the cold or flu by a lot. For symptoms Tylenol stuff has generally helped a bit… And Extra, Extra, Extra liquids! Hope you’re over it soon! Best Wishes- Dx
