Can I stop losing at 210?

When smack in the middle of WLS - the weight is pouring off you.  When I get down to where I think I look good, 210 or a little less but not under 200 - can I stop the loss or will I just zip down until my body says, 'okay, i can maintain 160 on this amount of food! But definitely not 210!" Thanks, Bob.

Your body will tell you when its time to stop and will likely stabilize at a weight it's comfortable with.   This is true for some but not all.  There are strategies you can use to slow down and attempt to stall the weight loss - higher calories, higher complex carbs, additional fat within your diet that can help slow/stop the loss...my strategy was the opposite, I've got to keep my caloric intake down in order to keep the weight loss stopped and stabilized...the more calories I consume, the more efficient the furnace burns so there's a balance I must achieve.  Right now with where you're at (I'm a Missouri boy and have read your posts regularly) concentrate on the loss...track your intake and loss closely so you know how different strategies effect your rate of loss.  Keep in mind as you drop weight and your level of physical fitness improve, what works today will not work tomorrow - your requirements will change and you have to adjust.  This will help you avoid or at least minimize those evil plateaus are so common. Now is the time to get in tune with your body...then when the time comes you'll be better prepared to tweak your routine and guide your weight loss or stability.  Protein, water, vitamins/supplements and exercise are the key...establish these as lifelong habits now and you'll maximize your loss and give you a strong foundation for your body to determine a weight range it's comfortable with. Best wishes! CF

thanks CF, we Missouri boys have to stick together!  I guess it's better to lose and then gain as long as it's solid muscle, yeah!

Hi Bob, I wouldn't worry about it.  When you get down to 210 you can decide then if that's where you want to be.  The weight pours off for awhile but there will be several stutter points on your way to 210.  You will learn very quickly what causes you to gain weight and maintain.  You are not going to go to 160 unless you want to be there, not an issue.

Bob, That’s typically not a problem. It’s easy enough to increase Calories with a little extra fat and carbs in the diet Without completely changing back to old bad habits. CF is on the rare end of the spectrum, Exercise junkie!!! Dam he is FIT!  For most of us there’s plenty of places for the body to store fat at the slightest chance it gets…. Maintaining 210 shouldn’t be a problem. Best Wishes- Dx

Bob,
It's beginning to look like I'm in the same boat as CF.
I hit my goal of 199 and immediately upped my calorie intake to find a good maintenance point. And, I LOST 5 MORE POUNDS THIS WEEK! Thankfully, I'm not losing any lean muscle mass... yet. Body fat is quickly approaching 10%. It's gonna be trial & error until I find the right balance. I don't think it's all that common, but, I guess some of us need to really experiment with the diet and exercise to figure out what's gonna work to keep us from losing MORE than we'd like.

Of course, if I were you, I wouldn't even give it a second thought until I reach goal. Just focus on the task at hand.

A year ago at 417 lbs, I never in a million years thought I'd be in this position... Be careful what you wish for.

Be Well,
A.J.

AJ That most recent "after" pic represents one of the most amazing transformations I've ever seen.  Un-real dude.  All the best. Sonny

You will be assimilated, resistance is futile.

you know the last time I lost 75 pounds in 1 1/2 years and that was a pleasant shock for me, and I kept it off for 6 years with it only inching back up and then as I got to 275 and then 300 it was like someone open the filler and filled me to 400, but geez, dropping from 417 to 199 in a year had to be the ultimate rush!!!  Thanks for the replies, all of you.
