i'm going to keep this short because of the pain, we just found out one of our beloved dogs has liver damage from his epilepsy. the doctor gave him maybe 5 months. he's so young, it's just not fair. you know, we don't have kids, just our critters. we're crushed beyond words. We've had four Vizsla's and he's our fourth to go. i just don't know what to say expect all of you have been to supportive of me and gail in the past i just wanted to share this you. i named my business after Chili and put his picture on my business card. everybody loves him and we will to until the end.......Carbonblob

thanks Dennis, he wasn't supposed to make it past the first year due to the severity but we managed to keep him alive and happy for 6 years. we're determined to save his liver at any cost and try every type of treatment we know of. thanks.....carbonblob

Carbonblob and Gail, My wife and I share your love of dogs.  In the last four years we had to put down a very lovely Springer Spaniel due to old age, dementia, and deafness.  We replaced him with a beautiful Solid Black rescue dog that was a mix of Chow, Shepard and Lab.  He was timid as hell, sweet as could be but very unteachable.  He would'nt come, sit or anything.  He roamed the streets as a puppy and was taken into a kennel at 6 months.  he was a year old when we rescued him.  He became very good friend with our Boxer mix who taught him how to play and socialize.  He wondered out one day as I was cutting grass.  I came upon him just as he saw a puppy across the road.  He bolted and wa****  He died that night. We experienced real deep grief over this.  It took awhile before our household returned to normal.  beleive it or not just weeks later a young blond lab mix began hanging around our golf course.  No one could get near her.  One night she walked up to our gate and we brought her in.  We checked for id tags, posted notices and cheked around all vets to find her owners.  No one stepped forward.  She is now over two yearsold andthe sweetest dog we have ever had.   Divine Intervention?  who knows.  I am thankful to God for her.  Our household is a very happy one.  And the Boxer loves her. drjco

what a sad yet beautiful story drjco. they say when one door closes another one opens. i swore after my second one died no more but gail insisted and here are with our sweet fourth vizsla Tango! she was the best thing to ever happen to our Chili. he loves her more than anything and she returns it. she just doesn't understand why he won't move. i think dogs just know to leave a sick dog alone so they won't catch anything bad. just instinct. my mind and gail's are just spinning like tops right now. this is a mind blower because every single specialist prepared us to let him go in less than a year and here we're on 6 and damn good ones too. we're determined to beat this too. i hope......thanks again for the great story and warm words.......carbonblob

Carbon Blob, I understand how you feel when a dog you have grown to love is suffering.  My wife and I have been there more than once ourselves.  I just showed your post to Mrs. G and she said you should read “Rainbow Bridge” at http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/rainbowb.htm   There isn’t much I can offer to relieve the pain other than to say; get another puppy while you still have this one.  May Your Lantern Burn Bright,  Paul

CB, Man, reading your post hit me hard.  We discovered the joy of Vizslas 2 years ago when we rescued our first.  They are glorious and loving dogs.  I am sad for you tonight.  Give Chili an extra hug tonight from us here in North Carolina. Bob

Carbonblob, You're in my thoughts and prayers.  My wife and I do not have children either, so we know what you're feeling.  It is one of the hardest things to go through and I wish you the best.   Floyd
