I've been pretty vocal about my year journey so I won't go into too much detail in this post, but needless to day a year ago today I walked into the OR and had the DS.   Starting weight:  492 Surgery weight:  472 Current Weight:  234 Loss for month 12:  10 lbs Loss Since surgery: 238 Total Loss:   258 Now the excess weight loss percent depends on my goal of the week.  My ultimate dream goal was 175, at this time I'm wondering if that will be too thin...but assuming for now that is my goal.....I've lost 80.1% of my excess weight since the day of surgery.   In terms of clothing size, I've gone from a 6x-7x shirt to an XL, and from a size 74 (plus..you know the kind with the stretchy waist) pants to a size 42 (regular waist...i'm probably ok to go into some size 40s, but I still like to wear my cloths baggy to hide some skin issues.  Biggest Changes:  1) not having to shop in the big and tall store anymore 2) Not having to worry if I will fit into a seat in a public place...or worse break a seat 2b) just thought of this one ....being able to walk more then 10 feet without being out of breath 2c) related to b....no more sleep apnea 3) More self confidence, and desire to take care of myself 4) i finally feel in control of my weight issues for the first time in my life.  Thank you to everyone on this forum, who has offerred words of encouragement along the way.    Scott

Scott: Congrats @!!! Thanks for the share.. I am so happy this has been so healthy in so many ways for you. As to goal weight of 175lbs... I have found that my body is seeking the weight it wants... my Dr. goal weight was 220lbs ( from 320lbs). At 5 '11"; this seemed O.K., well at 220 I kept losing.. than I wanted to just be below 200lbs.. I got there.. my body kept shedding / releasing lbs. I am now at 170lbs. and it feels very "skinny".. My bmi is in the healthy range.. my waist is 32".. shirt size large.. My goal now is to add muscle.. I feel great... Again Congrats !! Kev-

Thanks kevin...I think the issue for me at this point will be the skin factor.   I'm 6'1'' and the medical charts say 175...but I've been MO and SMO for almost my entire life.  I went on my first diet when I was 7, so my skin is pretty stretched.   I might be carrying around 20 lbs of excess skin or more at this point...it's weird too..because I look at my arms, and I can see definition under the skin, but my arms don't have "shape" to them because of bat wings.  I can see muscle definition in my thighs when I'm standing, but then i relax a minute and they lose their shape because of flab.b  Right now I'm working out regularly trying to build muscle mass.  I figure it will help me finish off these last 50 or so lbs.  Scott

Congratulations Scott!! I started just under 400 and have been at the 179 to 185 range for over 2 years now. Also 6’1”.  I resisted having PS for a full year, but I’m so glad I did have it. It makes a world of difference in how I feel. Not just “how I feel about me, “  But comfort in clothes, etc… It’s cheaper than many imagine. Not advocating….just sayin’ With all of the “Lap-Band or RNY” questions on the board of late, It good to have those with the DS reporting in their successes as well. Keep up the Great Work!!! Best Wishes-

I can't wait for plastics..... I remember you telling me that your plastic surgeon was relatively inexpensive (at least compared to NY prices), can you give me his info?  i've actually been questioning in what direction I'm going to go in with plastics.   My insurance will probably pay for some of it, but I'm keeping all my options open, including traveling to other parts of the country, or out of the country if necessary.  Scott

Scott, Here was my Group- http://www.memphisplasticsurgery.com/surgeons.html Neumon Goshorn was mine. I "interviewed" Plastic Surgeons in Atlanta, Birmingham and Memphis... A total of 6 docs. Went with Neumon cause he was the most cautious yet most experienced with cases like mine. He had just completed 6 other MEN'S Tummy Tucks during the 4 months prior to my surgery. He was Super!! I could not be happier with his work and his staff. (the receptionist/booking/appointments lady is a bit like Cerberus, the 3 headed dog that Guards Hell. I nearly didn't get 'Through' her to talk to the doc. Very protective of his time....) Once I got to him, he was a joy to deal with. Returned e-mails and such before he even had first appointment... I was prepared to go for a stay in Atlanta, with Bernadette Wang Ashraf, MD with Artisan Plastic Surgery. (was my 1st choice till I found Goshorn) Best Wishes- Dx
