What Special Clothes Have You Rediscovered?

Gentlemen,  What old special clothes have found in the back of the closet or attic that once again fit?  For me there are three. First is a nice black, pinstripe wool suit that I bought before I had the wisdom to ask Mrs. Gubrud marry me.  I also have the wingtip shoes that go with it.  The jacket fits fine but the trousers are a little baggy.  BTW, for you younger guys, wingtips will never go out of fashion.  Then there is my high school letter jacket that I got in 1970; complete with my football letters and all of my other high school awards.  It’s one of those old classic style jackets with leather sleeves and a wool body.  The last time I wore it was 1972 when I graduated.  It fits fine, although the sleeves a little short.  But the best is my red wool Boy Scouts of America Jack-a-Shirt that I got in 1969 when I was 15 years old.  It’s a size 44 and it fits perfectly.  Mrs. G had it dry cleaned and it looks great.  I’m wearing it as I type this.  So guys, what prizes and surprises have you found tucked away in the attic, closet, or basement?  Go look; you might be surprised.

May Your Lantern Burn Bright,
Paul

Wow Tim, I wish that I had My old P-coat to put on.  However, Like you I have re-discovered my old cruise jacket made in the P.I. back in the 80's.  A couple of years ago I had resigned the fact that Maybe if I was lucky enough to have any sons that I would give it to them.  I am now sporting it around town.  cool.  On top of that I am also fitting into my navy uniform.  Way cool A couple of more punds to loose and I will be able to fit in my red silk suit made in Hong Kong that I used to go clubing with back in the day.  I can't wait to wear it to church and make some heads turn

I didn't have any tucked away, but I am re-discovering my love of the good old american blue jeans.  You wouldn't have caught me dead in a pair of them pre-wls.  But this very moment, I am wearing a pair of size 36 button-fly Luckys and I am loving them! Take Care Scott

Great post. I have a suit that I got for graduation in 1988 and have worn only a couple of times. I was able to get into it, but now it is too big. I am the smallest I have been middle school I think. I need to check my letter jacket. Its somewhere in the closet, but I suspect its too big too! :) Clothes are the best NSV that can occure in my book!

I just had RNY on 1/31, so I'm not even a month in. But there are 3 things I can't wait to get reaquainted with.... 1) A rugby jersey I bought on my Honeymoon in Ireland. Haven't worn it in 7 years. To be honest, it was a little snug when I first bought it.... 2) My authentic Sam Huff NY Football Giants jersey that my wife bought for me for the first Christmas we knew each other, 10 years ago. It's been a good 4 years since I wore that.... 3) My leather jacket, I bought back in '99. It sucks to see a $400 jacket just hanging in my closet. As I'm sure you all know, the clothes in our pre-WLS sizes aren't usually the most "styling" items you'd care to buy, and the ones that are nice, and/or name brand, are really expensive.

Hi Paul, Your post really made me laugh, first because I can just imagine you sitting there in your old BSA jackshirt. I never had one...thought about getting one for year, but they never had my size...now I can go down to the Scout Shop and find one that fits, plus about 4-5 sizes that are too big! The other reason I laughed is that I waited too long! All my "keepers" were in a guestroom closet. On my way down from 425 to 225, I forgot about them until it was too late. Once I remembered they were there, I tried them on and found they were HUGE on me!  As the perfect ending to the story, though, my wife sold them on eBay. Some of the nice suits I had, which cost hundreds new, went for pennies on the dollar. I think the most she got for the old suits was about $60-70. One nice thing, though, is she found out anything BSA-related (too-big uniform shirts and pants, Philmont t-shirts, etc.) all goes for a good price on eBay.  Regards, Joe

Great topic; I also blew by my old clothes... From 52" waist and 4x; to 32" waist and Large size shirts.. But just this morning I went into the closet to grab a pair of shorts ( 68 degrees in Stockton , Ca. today) to golf in and had to laugh.. my smallest pair we 38".. the biggest were 42" baggy.. just for fun I put both legs into one leg of the 42"'s and they fit.. what a laugh I had... Went to Marshalls this PM, founs a nice pair of 32" waist for $24.99... so when I golf tomorrow, I will be in shorts that fit.... Great memories.. rock-on

Paul, The last time I weighed what I do now was 35 years ago. I am a bit of a pack-rat but I didn't hang onto anything from that long ago. It's just nice to be able to go in any store and if I see anything that I would like to wear it is always in my size now and doesn't have to have several X's in front of it. Stay Well Woody
