Hi Chris, Sounds like your situation is a lot like mine was. I was 320 lbs when I started considering WLS.  I went to the Dr. already decided on the LAP Band but ended up getting the VSG instead.  The Dr. didn't advocate one over the other and I'm not advocating one surgery over the others either.  I chose VSG for several reasons: - It is somewhat less invasive than some other surgeries - only the stomach is involved.  I couldn't stomach (pardon the pun) the idea of having my intestines re-routed - I didn't think I would like having a device implanted in my body that had to be adjusted periodically. - VGS is a restrictive procedure and it doesn't involve malabsorption and the "dumping" some other surgeries can involve. - I don't have to take very many supplements - just multivitamins and calcium. - Only 1 night in hospital!! For me at least.  I was told that most only need 1 night but to be prepared for up to 3. - Last but not least, with the removal of most of the stomach, your stomach doesn't produce as much of the Ghrellin hormone that stimulates appetites. Here's some links to FAQ and a surgical practice website (the one that did mine) that has quite a bit of information about all of the surgeries. http://www.vsgfaq.com/ www.lapsf.com This is a link to a brochure that has a table comparing 4 different surgeries including LAP Band and VSG and others.  http://www.lapsf.com/brochure-morbid-obesity.pdf
