At last! The answer to the plateau!!!

I've been on a serious plateau for the last three months.  Today I had a follow up appointment with my doctor.  He told me that drinks with carbs are keeping me at minus 160 and holding! Apparently, after having RNY surgery, when carbs in liquid form hit the bloodstream, the body produces four times the amount of insulin it did pre-op.  This causes "The Hunger(tm)" throughout the rest of the day. I never knew that glass of orange juice in the morning and an occasional beer or margarita would be sabotaging my weight loss attempts so badly! From now on, it is water, crystal light, diet pepsi, and an occasional Miller Light.  I should be back on track in no time!

I hadn't heard that.  I knew that juices could easily derail loss....my RD calls them "liquid candy".  I hope cutting them out gets you jumpstarted.  Let us know how it goes!  160 and holding is an awesome place to be, but I'm sure you're anxious to get going again! Ken

A suggestion: Have you tried Tropicana OJ with the sugar cut in half? It has about 10 grams of sugar per serving, instead of the around 28 in regular stuff. I don't drink OJ much, but after hearing this I may cut it out all together.

i agree with ronnie Jim. oj can be a lot of calories and watch the carbonation too. some say it's nothing others say it stretches the pouch. when i get stuck i try to do more cardio and step up on the water. also, not to be too graphic but are you pooping ok? that can make a big difference. i put benefiber in all my shakes twice a day. i think keeping things moving help with the weight loss. good luck......carbonblob

I'm going to completely cut drinks with carbs out of my diet all together.  And yes, I'm "regular".  I take psyllium husk fiber capsules when things get backed up.  ;)
