So I am 12 days before surgery and was told 2 days ago I would have my surgery cancelled if I become ill. 2 days later and I feel like I am getting sick! Post nasal drip and a little congested. I have been taking Air Borne and Vitamin C. Any other remedies I can try? I really don't want to have my surgery cancelled. HELP!!!

I'd call your surgeon and try to see if you can get a prophylactic antibiotic to head this off at the pass.  If that doesn't work, I sometimes get my PCP to give me two shots whenever I get a bad sinus infection - Rocefin (broad spectrum antibiotic) and dexamethasone (steroid).  I seem to feel better within 24 hours almost without fail.  Tell your surgeon and anethesiologist about this if you have it done so they can make informed decisions about your health. If you do have a sinus infection, I would deal with it rather than try to avoid waiting.  It will only get worse, and then the likelihood that you'll get delayed increases.  There's plenty that's going to suck after surgery for a few days, and you don't need a serious infection to go along with it - it is a pretty brutal week even with the pain meds.   This is a LONG TERM project - you didn't gain all your weight in two weeks, and if you have to wait, you should do it.  I suspect that you're a little anxious, and that's supressed your immune system, and made you more vulnerable.  Get it right - and don't ru****  If your body's not ready for surgery when your day comes, reschedule, and do it right.  This is major surgery, and people DIE from this procedure.  Don't put your family at risk - get well, and then get this done (IMHO).

Dear Kevin, You should report it to the surgeon.  However, if you don't have a fever, maybe you can still be on schedule.  If not, you should delay until you are feeling better.  My understanding is that once you are on the surgery schedule, they are very accommodating about rescheduling.  They will give someone an opportunity to move ahead and then you take their spot a couple of weeks later. It would be inconvenient, but for your own good. Good luck.

Get some antibiotics now.  The surgeon or a walk-in clinic can get you those.  Tell them that you need to head this off at the pass.  See if they can get you the 7 day dosage.
